Brandy is wine that has been distilled twice. I know more men than women who drink it but I don't think it has a gender. It tastes like wine but with a kick like hard liquor.

Brandy is rainwater. Odd, hard to believe you say? I agree, but when you break brandy down to its essential primary components, you'll find that it's true. Brandy is wine, and wine is initially rainwater. Much like beer is distilled to make whiskey, so is wine distilled to make brandy. While pot stills are still used to make some very fine brandys and cognacs (cognac is the french word for "brandy") most distillation methods nowadays use a continuous still. Brandy is not just distilled wine however. I, myself, have made raspberry brandy, rose brandy, and even huckleberry brandy. Typically, brandy averages around 35 to 40 proof, or 70 to 80% alcohol content. This makes it as strong as some of the more "manly" liquors but because of the componet it is distilled from it has a more complex character and is typically much smoother. Many wheat and starch whiskies need to be mixed with water to allow the more subtle flavor components to come forth, but most brandies can be sipped directly from a snifter and portray the art of their distillation without the help of a cutting agent. Furthermore it should be noted that while cognac translates into brandy, only brandies from the Cognac region of France can be legally defined as Cognacs. Is brandy a manly drink? I smoke cigars, and there are few things I enjoy as much as smoking a nice cigar that has been dipped in Brandy, what could be manlier than that, I ask you?

Brandy is the product of distilling fermented fruit. But more people relate it to grape brandy and especially cognac which is a premium brandy from a specific region in France.
The quality varies a lot but fine old cognac is very fragrant and is truely unique. It is appreciated by both gender.
In drinking, there is no such thing as being manly or girly. I know many men that enjoy sweet drinks and many women that enjoy strong drinks. They are no more or less manly or girly before or after the drinks.

To give you the short simple answer, brandy is "burnt wine", or wine that has been distilled/condensed. The taste depends on the type of brandy consumed. I haven't had regular brandy for awhile, but I've recently had plum brandy which is sweet but has a very strong alcohol flavor. I wouldn't say that brandy is necessarily a manly or girly drink, as it is a matter of drinker's preference, but in my experience, men tend to prefer it. It's not one of my favorite drinks, but taste is in the palate of the bedrinker...or something like that.

Brandy (short for brandywine, from Dutch brandewijn—'burnt wine') is a general term for distilled wine, usually 40–60% ethyl alcohol by volume. In addition to wine, this spirit can also be made from grape pomace or fermented fruit juice. Unless specified otherwise, brandy is made from grape wine It is normally consumed as an after-dinner drink. Brandy made from wine is generally colored with caramel coloring to imitate the effect of long aging in wooden casks; pomace and fruit brandies are generally drunk unaged, and are not usually colored.

It is liquor distilled from grapes. The higher quality brandies are very smooth, with fruity nuances. I feel anyone can enjoy a fine brandy by itself, but there are numerous mixed drinks containing brandy for those who don't like straight liquor.

It is spirit made from grapes and made in the same way as whiskey, gin, vodka or rum ie. distillation. It is no different than any of these drinks mentioned. Manly or girly depends on who is drinking it and not what it is.
