I'm not necessarily talking about romantic love. I heard this statement at a seminar and I'm trying to recall how it was exactly phrased. I think it was something like this.

I don't mean spam or junk mail-type communications. Most likely communications from people you know -- whether they be family, friends or casual acquaintances.

Yes. The bottom line is people want/need to be loved.

No.
Most are a request for attention or acknowledgment not for love.

I don't think or believe every piece of spam or junk mail or phone call trying to get us to buy something we neither want or need is because someone loves us.

No not every act of communication. It depends on the content of the communication. Some may just ask for things or to gather knowledge. Those that request for our companionship or our attention to them would probably be seeking for love.

No. Communication is far to complex to ever be all about one goal. Uncertainty Reduction Theory tried to claim that everything is about reducing uncertainty but other theories have come along and modified it just like this. Communication infuses everything we do and since we have various goals so does our communication.

I believe that every act of communication is a request for something, however if I said to you that your car was blocking my way, could you move it please? I am requesting an action from you not any sort of affection.
