im a guy, i have a relatively high pain threshold i can pretty much handle all types of pain accept for burns. burns are unbearable for me.

what i am expecting pain wise from a tattoo is basicaly like getting a shot accept over and over at a vibrating speed, im also expecting that feeling in combination with numbness. am i right?

If you are worried about the pain you aren't man enough to get a tattoo.

Hey dude,
If you passed kidney stones you wont have a problem with getting a tatoo, it most certainly isnt like being burned, but It is extrememly annoying especially in those sensitive parts. i.e. armpit, ankle, or any other part that doesnt have a lot of fat for cushion or protection close to the nerve's or bones, it also really depends on how Big you Tat will be, and others are right about NO drinking before, but if you go to a professional artist they wont even let you if you have been drinking, and no aspirin, as it thins the blood. My advice make sure it's a design you really want to live with the rest of your life, after that it's all secondary.. Besides after being stabbed and passing kidney stones (ouch that hurts. Just pray to God you dont get Gall Stones, that's when you will want to shoot yourself) Good Luck. I give the pain level a 61/2

it is painful an i am a big big wuss but i now have 4 tattoos and im going for a 5th, it is a pain u can bare! it kinda feels like ur skin is tearing but it really is bareable. it also depends where u get it as some places are worse than others! once the outline is done tho the pain goes as u will just be numb!
dont worry about it, if u av thought long an hard about getting the right design then go for it!!

If you've passed kidney stones, been stabbed, and broken bones, then why are you even concerned with the pain of a tattoo? I have 8, and I'm sure that it doesn't hurt as much as any of those things....but I can personally guarantee that none of my tats hurt more than childbirth with an episiotomy and no drugs.

I also have a relatively high pain threshold, and at the beginning it felt like a 3 or so... the last 5 minutes or so felt more like a 6 or 7.

Ok, I got my first tat yesterday, on my upper arm. I gotta tell ya I was freaking out about how much it was going to hurt, and I have a high tolerance for pain. You really wanna know what it feels like? It feels like getting a sun burn and touching it. That's it. It isn't really painful, just annoying after awhile. Man up, you can do it, and it'll all be over with soon.

for me it was nothing like getting a shot (shots hurt!). it feels more like a lot of little pin-pricks. after the first couple of minutes, though, your endorphins will kick in and it will feel more like a buzzing feeling. the pain is in no way intolerable. a couple of mine actually tickled a little bit once i got used to it

i don't know what your pain scale is so i can't give you a number. but i can tell you that certain areas will hurt more than others (tattoos over bone hurt more and longer). i have 7 tattoos and none of them were excruciating (worst was about a 5 or so on my personal pain scale, and i'm a pansy). my rook piercing hurt far worse than any of my tattoos and most of mine are right over bone (spine, hipbone, collarbones).

Just get one already ... lol ... it doesn't hurt that bad ( depending on where you get it - my ribs - yeah hurt like hell and couldn't last very long ) ... it's more like an annoying pain that doesn't go away ... I guess I would say it feels like somebody scrapping away at your skin with a very fine needle ... the wiping is what gets me ... some artist will rub you raw if you're not careful ... good luck and screw whatever one else said ... you're man enough ... most men are ... take a few shots & swallow a few pills for the pain ... !

I got my first tattoo 3 days ago, a small one on my lower back.

The outline absolutely killed. It felt like someone was dragging a burning hot knife over my skin, digging 10 cms deep. The colour didn't hurt half as much and I began to enjoy it. It hurts though, there is no lie about it.

BUT it is worth it. The first day I was in way too much pain to enjoy my new tattoo but now it is healing I'm heaps happy! :-)

I say start small, you can always add to it :-)

Dont listen to some of these people....the ones that arent telling you to get one. I think an old man with a tattoo is the ****...Older women are the ones that I think look silly and trashy with tattoos...no offense women, but I think as a grandpa, your grandkids would think your a badass with a tattoo. Just get something that means something to you! Everyone with tattoos say that their tattoos reflect who they are as a person or make them unique, but I see so many damn people with stupid **** that means nothing like a guy with barbed wire or just stupid designs that have no meaning, or some chinese symbol that they dont know what it means....or all the girls with roses...Get something with meaning....Sorry for the tangent, back to your question....I only have one tattoo and it was on probably the least sensitive spot, the shoulder so i cant talk from much experience, but I was drunk and it didnt hurt at all. I was a little anxious at first too, but it was real easy, but again like I said, it was on my shoulder and drunk so it probably eased the pain a little bit....sorry that was long bro, good luck
