2-3 miles is fine. The problem here is your caloric intake is too low. So, not only will you have miserable workouts, your bodyfat percentage will stay high and the weight you do lose will mostly be muscle,

The goal should be reducing bodyfat and retaining lean muscle. To do this, you must get the body to release the bodyfat for energy. This is done by giving the body enough calories through proper diet and exercising to build the lean muscle.

This doesn't mean you should go hog wild with the caloric intake, there is a right amount you should get, and also you have to eat healthy whole foods including lean proteins, complex carbs and good fats.

Yes, if you're just trying to lose weight, running 2-3 miles per day is good. Yet, do not limit your calorie count to 1200,.....that is dangerous. Just going through the normal routine of your day requires more calories than that.
My cross country coach in college used to make us keep track of our daily calorie intake. The main thing he was looking for was to make sure we were getting the necessary calories. If you don't have enough calories, your body will start to burn off muscle.
So, eat well and just make sure you stick to fresh foods as much as possible, and stay away from processed foods:) Do not be afraid of getting calories; since you're working out, you need them.

you are undereating.
find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
dont try to lose more than 1-2lbs a week - its not healthy to lose more.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried - no junk food.

ANY exercise is better than none! You're doing fine. Try to make slow changes in your diet - changes that will last you a life time. Add some more fruits and vegetables. Soon you'll be so used to eating healthy that you don't like the junk. And you'll manage to run longer as you get used to it. Healtiness is like a snowball - start with little, then it builds on!

Hi Robert!
U run for atleast 30-40 minutes i.e. 5-6 miles with a constant speed and your pulse rate (heart rate) should be 120-160/min. take rest for 5-7 min with just sips of plain water inbetween and then climb stairs up and down for another 15-20min.
Have a lots of raw fresh salads and fruits and see the result in one month
Good Luck dear!
