Driving in Queensland on a foreign driver licence:

You are only allowed to drive in Queensland on your interstate or foreign driver licence, if you:

only drive the class of motor vehicle authorised on that licence
comply with the conditions (if any) of your licence
carry your licence with you at all times when driving and immediately show it to a police office when asked to do so.

This is based on the Queensland Transport website - other states MAY be different.

My son drives on a NZ 'P' license and can't transfer it till october here and is legal as you get your car license at an ealier age in NZ than aussie.

I lived in NZ for 4 months and I had to take driving lessons as they drive on the "wrong" side of the road and it is very confusing at intersections as their laws are different. By my 4th month I was just daring to get on main roads!!! I am an excellent driver in this hemisphere, but it is completely different "down-under" !!!!! Just driving on the opposite side is not a big deal, although it feels weird!!! It's knowing who has the right of way and alot of other complications!!! Get an Inter-national driver's license b4 you go !!! And PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTISE, b4 you get on anything but back roads!!!

" I am an excellent driver in this hemisphere, but it is completely different "down-under" !!!!!"

Hemispheres have nothing to do with it. They drive on the left in the Northern hemisphere in the UK, Ireland, Japan, China and India (among others) and on the right in the Southern hemisphere in Argentina and Chile (among others).
