It was this sunday. I put the deposit to hold a car. But after 2days I don't want to hold it. I even didn't sign any contract. And they already took $1000 from my bank. I called them because I want to cancel it and refund it. A salesman told me that I am gonna lose $1000(he was so rude,i never forget it). But I know I have a right to get full deposit.
I call them and try to reach a sales manager. BUT he never anwser. I left several messeges but never call me back.
I am an international student. I don't have parents and any relative here in USA. I do not have power... I even don't know where I can ask it. I am so upset and nervous..HELP ME. I'll go to that dealersahip tomorrow. I need to say something. Actually, I am nervous..I am worry about my English too. My brain gonna be blank..... I feel so bad with TOYOTA. I'll never buy TOYOTA car in my life.

I'm not sure which state you are in. Here in California a car dealership cannot keep a deposit if you do not buy the car. If you didn't sign a contract that specifically states that if you do not buy the car, they can keep the deposit, I don't see how they possibly can. The only way I have ever heard of a dealership taking a deposit is if they DO have you sign a contract or promissory note saying just that.
The Customer Care information below was pulled from Toyota's web site. It has an 800 number you can call and complain if they won't give it back. The web site is listed under source, (take out the spaces).
Another good free resource is autoscoop .com. It is for a radio show that I listen to about car buying and buyers rights. The guy that runs it is named Adam. There is a link on the web site where you can e-mail him your question. He will personally get back to you and tell you how to best deal with the dealership for the state you are in.

Don't worry about your English; it's fine. It's been six days, I'm assuming you already solved this problem but if you didn't ,consult the Office of Consumer Affairs

Another thing you could try is disputing the transaction with the bank. If it wasn't a cash transaction, u can dispute it, and get your money back.

The dealer might say all deposits are non-refundable and then you're stuck. Since you need a car anyway, you might as well buy a car from them rather than lose a $1000 deposit.

And also, hate the Toyota dealers, but not the cars. I find that the cars are actually very reliable :)

Did you get a RECEIPT for that $1000?

If so, check your local TV station's website. At least one of them should have a "consumer hotline" that handles complaints like that. As I don't know which city you live in, I can only show you the one from a city I know that has one:

If a TV station would help you, you case is practicaly done, as no dealer wants the negative publicity.

I would not blame Toyota though. I'd blame the dealer for unscrupulous sales tactics.

You may also find a complaint at Better Business Bureau, as well as any state or city level Consumer Protection Agencies. Most states have a Consumer Affairs office that takes complaints like this.
