Are u ready for a good bit of work? its easy once ya get the hang of it... do tons of searches there are a few books out there by vets that have good info in them...there is 2 ways of feeding raw (B.A.R.F)and cooked...protein needs are greater then veggi and grains...some supple ments are needed as well....and cats are a whole other story!

There is much controversy that goes along with this subject. There are many different ways to feed your dog. So, before starting an alternative to "commercial" dog food, be sure to do a lot of research into what is put into commercial food and into what dogs actually need.
I have done extensive research into commercial, home-cooked and raw and believe raw is the way to go. My girl gets mostly raw meat and bones, but also gets raw eggs (shell and all), yogurt, cheeses, fruit and veggies, nuts, beans just about everything except the usual - onions, grapes, & chocolate.
As for asking a vet for advise, there are as many different vet answers as well. Some will tell you commercial is the way to go. You will also notice they are the ones selling a certain brand. Can you say...kickbacks?
You have to do what feels right to you. If you make an educated and informed decision, you can't go wrong.
Side note**
Join a Yahoo group or two on rawfeeding and/or dog nutrition. You will find alot of information there.

I personally feed a raw diet, and have done so now for 13 years. The five dogs we have range in ages from 11months to 11 years old.....they have never been to a vet for any illness. Feeding raw is easy when you know how. Feed approx 60% Raw Meaty Bones, 10% offal, rest other meats. Some supplements may be necessary depending on what you are feeding. Try looking at raw sites.

I would feed her candaie You can get it at petsmart or any petstore. It hasn't been on the recall list and I haven't had a problem with it. Cooking for your dog is going to turn into a hassle unless your a stay at home mom. and you might not meet all your pups nutritional needs. Not very many dry foods are recalled. Mainly wet. Candaie and Innova and Solid wolf cub are some good brands.

There is NO reason to COOK for your dog.
Try researching the raw food diet. Raw food is FAR better for your dog than COOKED food which takes away the good things in raw!!
The diet is called the BARF diet and there is LOTS of information on it online. My dogs THRIVE on it.

After the recent petfood problem, that is what we have been doing for our dog. Here is a link to recipes for your dog
http://www.simplypets.com/pet-recipes/Dog/Meal
There are organic alternatives which you can search on google, but we found them to be beyond our budget an cheaper to feed "Maxx" people food.

If you want to cook your pups food , give the Vet a call and ask him for information. A dogs diet consists of a lot of different things, and there are additives you will need to purchase to insure he is getting all the things he/she needs.
Our food and their foods are greatly different in their ingredients.

Probably not cause you aren't putting in the vitamins and nutrients they need. Check with your vet.
