I like this guy that's a mormon, even though I don't know him very well, and I'd like to ask him to hang out with me sometime but I don't know much of anything about being a mormon since I'm a christian.

Your question was composed with punctuation, proper pronoun capitalization for "I", and grammatically cognizant. Therefore I deduce you aren't some swizzlestick pubescent teenager with a crush, but are reasonably intelligent young woman with a genuine request.

1. Most young mormon men are either retuned missionaries or are planning on serving on one. Most of the time during this stage, they're dedicated to bringing someone new into the fold, or have spent a couple of years doing that very thing. The opportunity to have you speak to missionaries will come up very frequently during your relationship.

2. Most young mormon men are morally clean, courteous, and will be very respectfull of you, almost chauvinistic. A few might get a little 'playful', but very rarely will they exhibit any type of potentially violent or abusive behavior towards you. You're generally safe in the company of an LDS male.

3. The 'Happy Shiney' version of the lds church will be presented to you a lot. On the surface it is indeed a happy shiney organization that has a lot of answers to many questions. Some are really good and thought provocking while others may be a little odd. It is most certainly at odds with mainstream christianity, so the best thing to do is do not repsond or speak about religious matters until you know each other better. Politics and religion can demolish a friendship in a single word.

4. If this gentleman is a recently returned missionary, there will be enormous pressure from the church at large for him to get married and have as many children as possible in the least amount of time. If you do end up 'tying the knot' but do not get baptized yourself, you potentially ruin his chances of getting to the highest kingdom of heaven in the afterlife and be a god. This is the culture of mormonism, like it or not.

If this appeals to you, you couldn't do much worse in a relationship. But. if you value your independance and intellectual freedom, give it a serious second thought. In any case, read up on what the church is all about so the dicussions won't be all one-sided.

I am a Mormon and members of the Church can indeed date. We date, we fall in love, we get engaged, we get married. Nothing unusual about that.

We do believe that intimate sexual relations should not occur until after marriage as sexual relations are very intimate, very special and very sacred and should be practiced within the bonds of matrimony.

Mormons also believe that dating should occur after the age of 16; not that there is any magical about 16 it is just that the maturity of the persons is best at the age or older.

While young Mormon men and women go out on proselyting missions and do not date as missionaries, they can do so before and after their missions. Usually, however, the dating is not as "serious" before the mission as the person is still wanting to fulfill the mission.

We can date all we want. We are encouraged to go in group dates more than one on one dates, just so that we arent tempted to have sex or something. But it's not like dating a mormon guy is that much different from dating a guy of another faith. But if that LDS guy was raised well in the church i can garentee that he wont make out with you the first or even second date. just a heads up! : )

Members of the Mormon Church are encouraged to wait to date until they are 16 (and then are encouraged to go on group dates, rather than individual dates, for the first 2 or 3 years). Some members have further personal guidelines that they follow (the specifics depend on the specific individual).

Best advice? Ask him. Worst that can happen is he says "No," and you're no worse off than you are now.

I, a Methodist, was engaged to a Mormon girl for over a year (after 3 years of dating). By the way I was in love but as the wedding approached, she changed her mind and wanted to get married in the nearest temple. This would require i convert (we had respected each other's faiths prior to this). Enter with extreme caution. When I asked why this had come up, she said that that was the only way for a mormon to reach "the highest exhaultation). When I realized it was convert or get out, though I was heartbroken, I got out.

My source is a fundamentalist Mormon father and son, so they may be different from the non-fundy crowd.

I know that the Mormons I know don't believe in dating of any kind until you're looking to get married.

I overheard the dad talking to the son about how he had to stay strong even though all us evil females were 'tempting him with sin.'

Sort of an extra joke there because this entire family is really arrogant and thinks they're so great...the son is an Eagle scout who preaches to us constantly, tucks every article of clothing on his body in to another one, and wouldn't know a joke if it came and hit him in the face. That's not really relevant but I think it's a little amusing.

He is also a Christian, if he is a mormon. So, no problm there. Just ask him and see what happens. My kids have lots of friends who are not LDS.

Well, it is encouraged to wait until your 16 to date. We believe in celibacy till marriage. You guys can kiss and cuddle and do normal stuff.

We are christians as well and we believe in the bible and that Jesus Christ is our savior.

Best wishes
