It's a very easy scam. With the invention of e-mail, these scams can be sent to hundreds of peole with almost no effort. Even if one in a thousand respond and you can only scam one in ten thousand, it is not hard or expensive to send out this many e-mails.

They are preying on everyone's desire for an easy buck. The dozens of "did I win?" posts in Yahoo Answers every day shows that people are willing to let down their guard in hopes that they won. In reality, if they were thinking clearly they would probably realize that it wasn't real.

Because there are alot of people in this world that will try to take advantage of another person to make a fast buck.
