Tiny tiny dogs like that should not leave their mother until at LEAST three months of age. Apparently the puppy is not from a reputable breeder. Has the puppy been to the vet?
It might be hypoglycemic or have any number of problems. It could have parvo or kennel cough or corona or any slew of problems.
It is normal for such a small dog taken from the mother and siblings too early and without a proper start in life to act this way. Some vets will give you nutri-cal to give to the dog so that you can get vitamins and sugars into his system.
You might need to bottle-feed him.
Is the breeder offering to help you at all with any of these questions? A good breeder would have told you these answers before letting you have the dog!!
You need to talk to someone in your area that is used to deailng with such tiny, sick puppies.
Best of luck, I hope he makes it.

The puppy is only eight weeks...They sleep an awful lot this young and one that only ways ounces such as you have. Normally puppies wake up and eat and play a bit but then pass right back out. Secondly, a dog that small does not eat much and you don't want it too. A teacup shouldn't weigh much and are quite small so get used to that unless you want an obeses dog that has major health problems.

What is really really long?
If he is sleeping 2 or 3 hours and then out for a pee, something to eat and drink, playing for a good couple of hours and back to sleep.. That's about normal.
But I don't know what you mean by really long.. To me that would be like 5 or 6 hours .. that would be too long..
If he is just sleeping 2-4 hours.. I wouldn't wake him.. Puppies NEED good sleep to grow, heal and develope.. He is going to get up and eat and play when he is ready. He is only 8 weeks old, he's a baby!

It sounds like your pup is low on energy. These tiny dogs don't eat very much but you might have to wake him and try to get him walking around and give him an appetite. This dog should sleep a lot but the way you indicated yours does. As far as I know the canned gourmet foods would be fine. most puppies if given a good smelling food will develop an appetite. You might have to give your pup a multi vitamin, that may give him more energy.

Seeing that he is just a baby, you may want to have your vet take a look at him just to be on the safe side. He should have alot of pep. and be active. Sleeping all the time isn't right. He should also be eating normally, That is a sign that there may be something wrong as well. You should never force your dog to eat. Check with your vet for an appointment as soon as you can. Better to be safe than sorry with such a young pet.

Little guys like this can get into trouble with low blood sugar if they dont get the proper nutrition. Puppies are supposed to be bounding around, playing, causing a rukus .... not sleeping in the corner all day. He should see his doctor to get checked. They can give you ideas to keep him perked.
