does this simply mean thinking about things all the time, daydreaming, or does it mean random uncontrollable thoughts?

It means when your thinking so fast you can't really understand your own thoughts. The words are going through your mind at to fast of a pace to comprehend all of them. You also jump from one thought to another, to another, to another, without wanting to & without any pause in between one idea & the next idea. You also can't stop the thoughts to go to sleep, or listen to someone else tell you something. It makes really hearing, or understanding what anyone says to you very hard to understand. I'm bipolar & have experienced this many times, it's no fun & most people don't understand what it's like & don't have much patience for you. It is usually able to be controled pretty well if you can find the right medications, but thats a long process & there are lots of side affects, some worse than the origonal problem. I'm lucky, I finally found the right combination for me & I'm doing very well now.

Racing thoughts are not just "thinking fast." They are thoughts that just won't be quiet; they can be in the background of other thoughts or take over a person's consciousness; they can gallop around in the sufferer's head like a carousel gone out of control.

I am Bi-Polar and have these symptoms during manic episodes.

I'm bipolar, for me racing thoughts are a constant stream of ideas running through my head, and I'm getting more and more excited about my new idea and oh here is another one and another one and another one on and on and on. Really fast!! Most times, it feels good, but sometimes, it gets to be a pressure in my head and kind of hurts.
