A lot of what has happened in mainland China dates back to when Nixon visited there.
The theory goes that exporting capitalism would destroy communism in the long haul.
Today China has entire regions committed to producing every form of consumer good that is sold in the US. Hope remains that the new capitalist model of industry in China would bring down the communist party in Beijing.
So far, nothing has budged. But American workers have paid the price for this move. Just take a look at the product labels next time you go into a WalMart or Target.
