Its an Irish greeting for 'hello'.Literally it means 'God and Mary be with you'.However this is more commonly used as a response to 'Dia dhuit' the more recognised Irish 'hello'.But both can be used

I believe the traditional reply is: "Dia is Mhuire duit, agus Pádraig" - God and Mary on you and (St.) Patrick"

It's a beautiful name. In fact it does mean DAY in Spanish It is derived from the name of Diana .
