I just noticed that my cat (he's very trained at using the litter box) that i just accquired 3 days ago went to the litter box. He used it alright. But unfortunately, some clumps stuck to his fur. He is a Persian (long-haired) and i was wondering if someone could tell me the proper way to remove these wet and partially dry clumps. ALSO, even though i snipped some of them off, he smells REAL bad around his tail now. He doesn't want a bath, and i don't know how to get rid of that. Please help!

Thank you.

You have two options: bathe him, or shave him. I don't know if you've seen it before, but it's becoming increasingly popular to shave, or clip cats in a lion-like style. Here's a couple links to photo examples:

If I had a persian, I'd most definitely get him groomed. I have a domestic long hair that I'm considering getting clipped. It's so darned cute, and cuts down on shedding and matting.

Poor dirty-bottomed kitty! He's probably more unhappy about it than you are.

Go to the pet store, there is a small shaver, so small it fitss ion your hand completely and it barely makes a humming noise and shave that area down as much as possibile. I have the same problem, my cat's fur is 5 inches long. Shave the tail some too. and arounf the legs, do this on a monthly basis. Yes, givve it a bath, there are also bath wipes if it is ate, and use a rinse paper towel and dry it with one too. I found the shaver in the dog's section, it ran around 20 dollars. It is the best thing you can do, been doing this for many years. I used to finf poop clumps all over the house and on her as well until shaving, forget about her looks, she don't like it either. Once mine got so clumped because she had ;loose stools that all the fur crossed over and she was blocked and could not even pee!!! This was a mess, don't let it happen. I got the shaver at Petco!

If he doesn't want a bath, that doesn't mean he shouldn't have one. Or try those kitty wipes.
