If you want to don't ask him, but always keep and extra one on your purse or in your back pocket or something... never lean on no one for protection on sex. if he takes the iniciative now i'm pretty sure he won't be the one taking it when it comes to your baby's health or well-being.
You should always remember (Tell him) this (actually an ex told me this one night i didn't have a condom and i never forgot):
"If you don't have it on before you put it in it would be better if you just keep it out"
LOL, get it... Anyways, don't fool yourself or let him fool you ...

If you see a pistol, do you assume it's empty and put it to your head, or do you assume it's loaded? If you want to play Russian roulette, go with assumptions and/or hints. If you don't want to play Russian roulette, you'll have to be blunt and discuss this when you're rational. It would also be a good idea to check out the failure rates of various forms of "protection".

Why leave it up to him. Go buy some condoms yourself and keep a couple in your purse. Never ever ever rely strictly on a guy to have protection. Be your own woman and make some decisions on your own terms.

ASK! ASK ASK ASK!
In the heat of the moment, it's hard to stop. NEVER go in unprepared. And, if he has none and you have none, don't do it.
Also, before going that far, be sure you both know each other's sexual histories (for safety's sake, and get tested if necessary) and be sure you're both ready.

YOU ASK.
"hey baby, you got a condom right??"
simple.
OR, even better, have one with you in case he doesn't

if you two can't talk about this openly yet, then you are not ready for sex.
