I would be concerned that your body has become tolerant and dependent on sedative hypnotic drugs (tranquillisers and sleeping pills). Long term use of these drugs is not generally recommended because of loss of efficacy and the withdrawal symptoms can include severe insomnia not to mention anxiety, panic muscle spasms, brain fog and much more. There are web sites set up specifically for people who have trouble getting off of sleep aids. See http://www.non-benzodiazepines.org.uk

Often sleep problems can be caused by stress, adverse medication reactions, withdrawal symptoms from alcohol or other prescription drugs, caffeine etc. You should look into the origional cause of your insomnia and try to find ways of coping with that and you should look into whether your body has become dependent on a drug. Don't stop taking sedative hypnotics abruptly or you won't sleep for a month!

Lunesta is the only sleeping pill I've ever used that was effective. There is a TERRIBLE after taste in your mouth, but they DO work!

How about having your doc refer you to a sleep disorder clinic to find out what is going on.
