I know i must qualify for some kind of financial aid for college. I talked to everyone possible to see how i fill out the financial part on the fafsa, they just keep telling me the same thing. I don't know what to do. I really want to go to college there is just noone that is really answering the questions i need to know. There has got to be a loop hole around it somewhere and i have got to find it. My problem is my grandparents have been my legal guardians since i was 5 and my parents havent given them a dime since and they cant afford to pay for college for me because they are pretty broke themselves, the fafsa says i cant use my guardians financial information the college told me the same thing. So if i havent seen or talked to my parents in years how am i supposed to answer these kind of questions on the fafsa and how do i get any financial assitance from the government to go to college and be successful. If anyone knows how to get around this please help me. thank you.

Have you tried talking to a supervisor at the financial aid office? Maybe they can help. At the meeting, bring a copy of your grandparents' guardianship papers. On the other hand, calling FAFSA might help at 1-800-4-FED-AID (1-800-433-3243).

If your grandparents are your legal guardians it should be their income on your fasfa. Who claims you as a dependant on their taxes?

Call the school's financial aid office. Its probably not a good idea to talk to the first person to answer the phone, this is probably a student working in the office who has no clue. Ask for the director or asssistant director, set up a meeting in person if possible. The people that work in the finacial aid office are well paid to help you get the most you can when in comes to financial aid.

Good luck!

Try calling the school and ask if they hold any workshops for financial aid. My community college holds them every now and then to help people fill out their application. Good luck.
