my ex is trying to force me to be friends with him, i have told him i dont want to but he wont give up. why is he doing this? i have moved on and im happy.

It seems he still feels for you.My Ex boyfriend tried to remain friends with me and we did for 5 years....I knew he still had feelings...and so did I.We were married three years ago hehehehe.

It's probably best that you're not friends. From personal experience, it'll give the person who still has feelings for the other false hope which just ends in hurt in the long run.

The loss of such a person in his life has left him with a gaping hole, he is trying to fill a part of it by regaining a small amount of his relationship with you, whereas you have already replaced that hole with other things.

he hasn't moved on and is holding on to the hope that you'll still be in his life if you're friends
he can't let go of you, you should tell him that this isn't what you want and be very clear about that
no one can "force" you to be their friend, this isn't The Cable Guy lolz

if he still insist this maybe because he still thinks that there's a chance for you to get back together.. as long i as know when its over its OVER no need to have a "weird" friendship
