The US has the highest percentage of mental patients--30% of the population--than any other developed nation in the world.

I bet there are more sick English majors than Cho around, and more sick VT students, too.

Don't you think it would be better to help them get well?

I think maybe you should look into being an English major. The first thing they'll teach you is to not be so redundant in your writing. Then they'll teach you how to write something coherent. You mentioned some form of "majoring in English" six times in 6 lines.

However, in answer to what I think you're rambling about: I think he was majoring in English because it was an outlet for what he had built up inside of him. He obviously enjoyed writing even if it was rather disturbing. Just because you don't agree with something someone writes doesn't mean he's a bad writer. He got a reaction out of people with his work, and that's what writers want. If he fulfilled the assignment, no matter how graphic, that doesn't mean he shouldn't recieve a passing grade. Plus, most professor's of English aren't going to censor creativity in their classrooms.

You choose your major going in and you have that major until you change majors or leave the institution. (You have the option of not declaring a major for your first two years. However, some students have their majors picked before they even graduate from high school.) As for passing classes, you'll have to ask his instructors.

He had mental issues! His major had nothing to do with his writings or messages prior and during his attacks. He was writing what he felt in the moment and saying what he felt. Intelligent people can have mental breakdowns which causes their train of thought, cognition, and speech to become distorted. Basically what I am saying is when he wrote he was not thinking about proper grammar and form he was writing how he felt in that moment. His major had nothing to do with the message.

The fact that you declare a major doesn't mean that you will graduate with that degree...
