Going on technology, the other fellow is right about Star Trek. The original had flip-open communicators and some audio device the communications officer used in her ear. Compare cell-phones, especially Nextel, and bluetooth earpieces. They also had these gizmos that injected things through the skin, but I don't know if they had those in existence back when the show was made. I know they have them now.

Then in "The Next Generation" they had things that looked like PDAs.

In terms of social change, there are a few movies where you can say that fact follows fiction. One movie in particular is "Network" with regard to television. You'd have to know of a time before reality TV, Jerry Springer, and so on. It is an absolutely brilliant film. I don't think the filmmakers wanted these things to happen though, but a lot of it did.

But, most films just get lucky if something shows up in the future.

And most fantastical things in movies still haven't happened. Exhibit one: "2001: A Space Odyssey," another brilliant movie.

Well ,

Philosophically speaking, It seems that history has shown that things in films have either been brought into existence or are on the horizon of being created. I hope this helps you, or puts you on the right track.

Film influences people and society on a mass level. All new inventions and ideas are reworkings of stored information in one's brain, kind of like dreams. Images are powerfully memorable. So, when many people watch the same movie, it is inevitable that someone will create something inspired by the film- even if they don't know it.

Pagers, Cellphones, DVDs, Tazer Guns, Electronic Translators and 'wide' video screens were all originally just 'made-up' props created by the writers of the original 'Star Trek'. Now they're a reality. :-)
