(Time and time and time again.) *NO* EVIDENCE! None. Zip.

Why don't Xians believe in Odin, Ra and The All-Mighty FSM? And why don't you believe *everything* else: gnomes, fairies, Santa, sprites, goblins, crossed fingers (and on and on)?
"PROOF" IS NOTHING. ... ** EVIDENCE ** IS EVERYTHING!
(As a physics student, surely you knew *that*!)

No evidence to back up the ridiculous claim that god is real. The fact the idea of a god is so ridiculous and so far fetched, the likelyhood is next to impossible. The fact that psychology has determined that man makes up god fantasies for comfort. And last but not least, the study of human history shows us that man has concocted well over 2000 god fantasies and not a single one of them had evidence to prove them real.

I will say lack of evidence, because lack of evidence is a very good indicator. You people are only speculating that your god is beyond conventional methods of discovery. Face it, your god is pure wishful thinking. You have no evidence to back up that he is real, when confronted with that hard cold reality you come up with the cop-out answer that he is beyond our comprehension and testing methods.

johndoe3 is an ignoramus. Studies have shown time and time again that the higher the education the less likely a person to be religously infected.

What the heck does "it is understood it cannot be proven or disproven by conventional methods" mean?

You're basically saying something is true and it can't be proven false because the thing is incapable of being proven true or false.

It is not necessary to believe in God. There is no benifit in that belief, and often times harm comes from it. Though God *may* be immune to being disproven, the various religious ideas of God is are not. The Bible, Koran, the Vedas and the many other religous doctrine that claim to explain the nature of God, have been validly refuted in their own sense.

First let me say that I do believe in God but I will answer that based totally upon the parameters of your question, which will extremely limit the conversation your trying to solicit.

without proof everything is opinion

the funny thing about it is ... religion from a sociological stand point has always been present in every society in some shape form or fashion throughout history.. it seems to be one of the natural states of man... even in today's time we have religion of many types defining and explaining the things we do not know asking for us to believe them when we don't understand what they are saying

funny thing is ... just because the scientist know how things work in the universe... they still can't get any closer to the ultimate big bang question of WHY!!!

Believing in an invisible super-being isn't normal. It seems normal to believers because they were raised being taught to believe, and they don't know any different. It's not the natural state of being, though. You need to be TAUGHT to believe in something that incredible. And people are taught based on words only. There's no actual evidence that ANY of it is anything other than a complete myth.
I won't say lack of "proof", but I will say complete and utter lack of any evidence.

You don't believe in over 2850 gods. Why don't you? What do you base your decision on?

You're a physics student. Do you believe in Russell's teapot ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russell's_teapot ) just because its existence can't be proven?

Nobody can prove any gods, much less a specific god, exist; many people will tell you their god exists but no others, but will never be able to prove it, even if they think so. Some will threaten you with eternal pain or promise eternal joy to get you to believe in their god; these are all stories, created for people who were scared long before we understood the universe. Now we have no more reason for these superstitions.

I base my lack of belief in a god in a firm understanding that money is what makes the world go 'round. Until love, compassion and faith become the internationally accepted currency, my landlord still expects dollars and cents on the first of the month.

You have already answered your own question. I choose to base my beliefs on facts and evidence. There is no evidence for the existence of a god or gods. Therefore, I don't believe in a god. Why are you asking a question, and then telling us to give you an answer without giving you our answer? It makes no sense. It would be like my asking a Christian why they do believe in a god (when their answer is faith), and telling them that they can't use faith in their answer. If you don't want the answer then don't ask the question. Ask yourself why you don't believe in the Greek gods/goddesses, the Egyptian gods, Buddha, etc. And if you answer honestly, you should understand why I don't believe in the Christian god.

For the exact same reason I don't believe in Wotan, Zeus, Santa Clause, or the great Juju at the Bottom of the Sea: no evidence. It really is that simple.

I don't believe in god because I am not a dreamer. I am a realist and realistically...it is a crock of sh it that somebody made up, to me the bible is a hard reading book that belongs in the fiction part of a library.
I do not try to talk people out of their religion though. I respect that some people need to grasp on to something larger then themselves.
I do have faith however, I have faith in myself to make my own destiny and happiness. I live peacefully and do not harm others.
