The type of clothes that the groom should wear is really dependent on the style of your dress, and the general tone you want for the wedding. Don't forget to match groomsmen's style to bridemaids dresses.
If you have the traditional style of gown - long and formal, I would recommend that the groom wear a black/dark suit with jacket, vest, and tie, at least for the service itself. Jacket can come off after. Cumberbunds and ties/cravats can match the flowers etc. The groomsmen can be slightly less formal, but similar in style.
If your dress is not so formal, then a white dress shirt worn with or without a tie, with maybe a vest, and a good pair of trousers would probably match the style. The groomsmen can have coloured shirts and the same style/colour trousers.
If your dress is more neat casual, then a nice pair of trousers, and a good shirt would suit.
If your dress is definately casual, he could wear whatever. It really depends on the tone you two want to set.
Hope this helps.

You can do this so many ways... We have chosen the tux style for all the men, fathers included. We have decided to mix it up by putting the fathers in ascob ties, different vests with in the color. The groomsmen will be wearing a more traditional vest/tie set. My wonderful fiance will be wearing a vest made from my gown! I expect all jackets to be ditched right after the pictures... 09-08-07!
PS The first tux place we went to... not so much.
I encourage you to get creative! Have fun with this too. Best wishes!

If you are getting married outdoors, then possibly a jaquard design vest and dress pant with a great dress shirt and tie would be great. Other than that recommendation, I would say a white linen jacket, black pants, cumberbun, shirt and tie. Whatever you choose, the groomsmen should follow the same. Why are you doing black and white in the heat of the summer in Texas? Black is so wintery and blah...why not chose a beautiful summer color like peach, salmon, lavender, celery green..or any spring and summer color. Black looks so dark and dreary in photos. If you haven't order the dresses yet for the bridesmaids and maid of honor, think about changing to a color.

I am also planning a garden wedding, in Florida. We just went and picked out his tux and some major places let the groom get a free tux of any type if the groomsmen get tuxes there too. My Fiance got one of the nicest tuxes they have because it is supposed to be breathable, and it was free! We put our groomsmen in black tuxes with green vests to match the bridesmaids and he is wearing a black tux with a silver vest to be different from the rest.

I originally wanted my guys to wear linen pants and hawaiian shirts. Thought it would be cute. We are getting married in Dallas outside...Why not do some black pants and white linen shirts. It will looked dressed up with your dress. Or I've seen weddings before where they went without the tux jacket, and just wore the vest, I thought it still looked good.

Look at pictures of destination weddings and take inspiration from how the grooms dress, some dress very casually, but others have light weight suits in pale colours, linen or cotton which keeps them cooler

For a casual wedding, what about those traditional, short sleeved, men's Mexican dress shirts? When they are worn loose over a nice pair of pants, it keeps him cool while still looking really sharp. My fiance' got one when we were last in Mexico (we're from Canada) - he said it was very comfortable in the heat and I thought it looked fantastic. Have fun!

Gauzy shirt and khakis, maybe? How about you let your man decide about his attire, and that of the groomsmen.
