i took out a loan on the car that i have now and my parents are co-signers but i want to try and get it myself. i have paid the bills on time for the last 6 months and i also have a credit card that i pay on every month. would that be enough for me to get the new loan on my own without having my parents co-sign for me?

You're entitled to get one free report from all 3 credit bureaus once a year and there's only one website that you should even consider using and that is:

http://www.AnnualCreditReport.com

This is the only government-sponsored source to get your reports.

This will not hurt your credit because it is considered a "soft" inquiry. No creditors can see that inquiry and it does not affect your credit score.

DO NOT USE freecreditreport.com!!!!

The "free" report they offer is only after you enroll in their "triple advantage" program, which is a rip-off & will bill you monthly.

The government allows you to check your credit report from each of the 3 major bureaus once a year (you can spread it out & check each every 4 months if you like, or do it all at once).

ANNUALCREDITREPORT.COM is the correct site.

to answer your more recent question, 6 months is not a lot of time to establish a basis... and if your parents are already co-signers on that, they may not distinguish "YOU" as having been the responsible party alone. So, it really depends on the dealer. If you go on your own, you may not get as favorable credit terms (or at all), than you would with your parents.

My advice... try to qualify on your own. Ask what the terms are, and then find out if you had your parents co-sign how much better those terms might be. Depending on the dealer and/or who you get the loan through (i.e. the auto giant, or the local dealership), it may be alot, or it may be negligible. If your parents are still willing to do so it might be the better option... and you can build your credit further with credit cards.

Good Luck!

freecreditreport.com

I believe they give you the three credit reports(experian, transunion and equifax ), free of charge. However all credit reporting agencies will charge you if you want the total credit score. You do not need to sign up for anything additional on freecreditreport.com, you do not need to. So if you do not sign up for anything, they cannot "rip you off"
The free reports will just let you know what is on there but they will not tell you your credit score.

You can also contact equifax, experian and transunion directly and run it that way.

You are allowed by law to have one free credit report per year. Also, if you run your own credit it does not (or is not supposed) to reflect poorly on your credit rating. It only affects you negatively if someone else runs your credit (ie. a bank or credit card).

Hope that helps.

To answer your additional details: Unless you have something horrible on there in the previous 6 months you should be fine. The car dealership will run your credit and let you know. It is a quick process and unless you are getting your credit run all the time, it really does not reflect badly on your report. Just do not overdo it. I think 3-4 a year is about the average.

So as long as you have kept up with payments, have nothing horrible before that that dropped your credit score drastically you should be able to get the loan yourself.

You don't need to run a credit report on yourself to buy a car, they'll do it for you when you apply for financing. I was amazed at how quick and easy this process was when I did it about three weeks ago. I was approved in about three minutes and I had only been at my new job for three days. Didn't even know my own work phone number!!

don't buy anything else that they're selling.

this will not count against your credit score.
