I am interested in exploring the complicated idea of endowing a single human with the all-powerful characteristics normally attributed to monotheists' notion of God.

The New Testament does nothing to satisfy the reader of the obvious complication of this very notion. And I would like to know whether an author has already explored this idea with any depth and seriousness.

Dune. It deals with the idea not of omnipotence, but of omniscience, and the terrible responsibility of being a messiah, and an inadequate one at that. (Although, personally i couldn't slog through the sequels.)

"The New Testament does nothing to satisfy the reader of the obvious complication of this very notion"

I don't know about that. If you mean a person having the power of creation, only God has that power. But the NT is full of accounts of people being gifted by God with miraculous powers. Peter and Paul both healed people and raised people from the dead. The NT also makes it clear that God is the only source of divine power and He only gives it to people to use in service to Him.

Supposedly the Devil will give a false prophet the power to perform counterfeit miracles, but who wants power from the Devil that ends up with being cast into the Lake of Fire for all eternity?

"The Mormons" will air on PBS April 30 and May 1, 2007 at 9 P.M.

It's supposedly is a fair examination of a church that claims to be founded and continually lead by a prophet. I have a suspicion it'll be another whitewash.

While a prophet isn't in the same league as a deity, it's pretty close.

Actually, 'Superman' is the modern archetype for what you describe: a single all-powerful righteous being, not born of this earth, but was sent to save it.

But you said 'seriously', and I'm usually not up to the task...

interior the 'Goblet of hearth', i presumed the dying Eater's costumes could be slightly distinctive, yet i'm happy with them. i replaced into disapointed that there replaced into no sphinx interior the maze! I HATE 'The Order of the Phoenix', merely because of the fact they did no longer coach Slytherin's locket and that's the foremost merchandise interior the movie. I had to describe to all my friends why it is so significant, so they understand approximately it interior the 6th movie. Daniel Radcliffe actually resembles Harry Potter, so heavily it extremely is frightening! I imagined Lupin very in a distinctive way. i'm shocked they made the movie character that wiped sparkling up.

The Bible.

Khasmir - Led Zeppelin

Oh let the sun beat down upon my face, stars to fill my dream
I am a traveler of both time and space, to be where I have been
To sit with elders of the gentle race, this world has seldom seen
They talk of days for which they sit and wait and all will be revealed

Oddly enough, the first example I can think of off the top of my head is a comic book. Try checking out "Lucifer", which is available in graphic novel format. And yes, it's about that Lucifer. Read "Sandman" first if you're really interested in following the storyline.
