Recruiting? I was a Mormon for over 14 years, and never did nor saw any recruiting taking place in the Church. I did see some missionaries too eager to get new converts, but that is not the same as "recruiting".
I do remember being recruited by the US Navy, and later transferred to the Army, from where I retired as a Major. But I was never recruited by any church.

If you thought with all your heart you had the truth and it was a happy message wouldn't you share it?
Why would that offend you? If you don't want to join that's fine, but don't be offended because they want to share their happiness.
Have a great day! :)
*EDIT* Just because they are the richest church doesn't mean they're after money. It's because members truly believe the doctrine and also 'Mormons' on the whole are successful people. They are tought to get as much education as possible. They are completely willing to give to what they believe is true.

Well, to use one example I've heard...
Let's say you came to visit me on a hot day. I had out on a nice cold pitcher of lemonade (or insert your favorite beverage if lemonade's not your thing). I sit there drinking from a glass that I fill with that lemonade, but don't offer you any, and you eventually ask why I haven't offered you any. Imagine what your reaction would be when I replied, "Oh, I'm sorry! I thought you'd be offended if I offered you any!"
Make sense now? (Although I must admit that I'm puzzled as to what you *thought* would happen when you entered a church of *any* religion and acknowledged you weren't a member of said religion.)

Well, anytime someone finds something incredibly fulfilling and satisfying, it's a natural human reaction to want to share it, isn't it? As a LDS (Mormon), I believe that we should all believe what we want to believe. If being an atheist makes you happy, then good for you. The same way being Mormon makes me happy.

Christ, immediately prior to his ascension into heaven, told his disciples to go forth across the world and "teach all nations" about him. Mormons are just fulfilling that commandment.
Additionally, if you feel that you have a way of life that brings peace, happiness, joy and contentment, why not share it with others?

We are trying to share the joy that it brings us with those who are honestly seeking truth.
All you have to do is let someone know that you are not interested, and the discussion is over. We do not push ourselves on anyone. In fact, it is a fundamental part of our beliefs to respect others' right to worship (or not) as they wish.

Because we want to share our knowledge about the truth and we want our friends and families to get saved. We want others to feel the spirit because that is so wonderful. I don't see any reason of offense in this.

You are a potential money source for the Morg - 10% of your dough is extracted (by guilt and shame of your inability to obtain a temple recommend) weekly/monthly/ whenever. Don't forget the extra $ you contribute for the monthly fast offering! Set some time aside for home teaching, priesthood callings, and scouting!.
Oh - I see your atheist. Oh, well - do like the rest of the church does and repeat the mantra "I know the church is true" and sooner or later you won't even care what you believe.

Did you ever look at it from our POV?
We believe that we have found THE TRUTH! And we want everyone to know that truth! I mean, if you found the cure for cancer, are you going to keep it to yourself, because you might offend someone?

The more "recruits," into conversion of person into Mormonism, the RICHER the church. Every member, to BE one has to COMMIT to "give," 10% of all they make to the church, no "exceptions." My first wife was a Mormon, and once you let them in the door, they are "relentless." Once I got rid of this unfaithful Mormon wife, I got rid of them "too."
