I'm a female and 14 years old, and i want to lose around 20lbs before summer? I'm about 5'4 and 145lbs, i'm not playing any sports this spring so im not going to be very active. I have a trampoline and a "gazelle", like an exercise machine thing. What else can i do that is healthy? I already have a pretty good variety of a diet and the only thing i really drink is water. but nothing seems to work? im also having some difficulties w/ motivating myself?

With school, it's hard to do anything to get motivated, because right now it seems i wake up around 5:00, go to school, and i get home at like 3:00, and i have so much homework its dark before i'm done and have any time to do anything.

find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
dont try to lose more than 1-2lbs a week - its not healthy to lose more.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried - no junk food.

maybe take a break in the evening before dinner, and go out running a little? Or maybe walking.

Also, the simple exercises you hated all through P.E. classes would be good too. Situps, jumping jacks, pushups, those would help.

Motivated is something I struggle with too. Maybe find a system to reward yourself for running, or like, make it enjoyable like going with friends. Listen to music while you walk, and just kinda escape your day. Lack of motivation can sometimes be related to overwhelming stress. Kindof a "why should I even care about all this?" attitude. Whatever you do, dont let that get near your obvious dedication to schoolwork.

Msg me if you have any more questions about the motivation thing.

PS - start caring now, because your grades affect your GPA, which affect whether you get into college or not.

Well first of all your only 14, your not done growing yet!!! You will grow another inch or two in the next few years and that will straighten your body out and make you look slimmer. Play sports and eat healthy foods. Avoid the vending machine and colas. They say we should excercise for 30 minutes 3x a week. Why dont you try running? Or swimming. Those are the best ways to lose weight. But do it 5x a week. Gluck!

I am in your same situation! I am trying to lose weight before prom too so I will tell you what I am doing. I have cut back on my calories and my fat grams, I eat more fruits and vegetables, and I go for a walk everyday! If you walk for about 30 minutes everyday for 2 weeks your clothes will fit you differently! I know how it is with school and everything. It's hard to fit everything you want to do in your busy schedule. Good luck!

Old fashioned, nonmechanical exercises work great as well. Push-ups, jumping jacks, and even simple stretches work fabulously. A great way to motivate yourself into wanting to exercise is to try to stay awake. The best time to exercise for someone like you is immediately after school because you will stay awake longer.
