I keep getting speeding tickets. I need a radar detector that is reasonably priced and that works the best. I live in california so i also need one that is up to date with the radar guns of the local police. Also, do all radar detectors make the radar gun unable to read my speed? or does it just detect radar? Cause i need one that does both cause it might be too late when it is detected...

They are ALL a waste of money. The radars that most law enforcement agencies are using these days are so fast that by the time most detectors detect them... it's time to pull over. And no, none of them stop the radar from reading your speed. They just detect the radar. That is why they no longer work. The radar beam is instantaneous. It has to hit your detector for it to detect anything, and the second that happens, they already know how fast you are going. The whole radar detector thing is a scam. If you live in a small, rural area or in a small town that still has old radar guns, you might be able to get by using one. Odds are, however, your police officers have your number. You just need to slow your butt down like a big boy.

As a police officer my advice to you is to slow down. I don't know of any radar detectors that will pick up a radar when it's in standby mode. All it takes is a flip of a switch to put it in to active mode so the only time one will work for you is when the officer is constantly running his or her radar. Also most states have a ban on any type of device that jams radar.

Most of them don't work well enough to justify the expense and PISS off the police.

I used to Rep Whistler (they are now out of business because many states outlawed them and they couldn't recover).

I got a ticket with my radar detector (top of the line whistler) and the cop saw it. I was about 18 mph over and he put it at 22 mph over, NO traffic school and it was a PAIN in the A**. Sure it wasn't right but I sure as hell wasn't going to fight it.

Here is a word to the wise from a guy that got pulled at over 140 in Arizona. No radar, nice, good road conditions and a racing license. He wrote me for 10 over. Drive smart, defensive, don't weave in and out and pick your places CAREFULLY to get the speed RUSH.

Here is another hint. If your car is NOT in TOP NOTCH shape mechanically with GREAT TIRES they can add reckless driving and a mass of other violations.

Four on concrete...most of the time...BE SAFE

Get one that covers all bands, works 360 degrees, and will go into a sleep mode if it detects a radar detector.

Valentine One

Although the external case has remained basically the same through the years, the Valentine One V1 is a top-flight instrument to detect all bands of radar as well as LIDAR. Owners swear by the effectiveness of its front-panel direction arrows.

It's NOT cheap (under $200) but it's the only one I've tried that picks them up before they pick up you.

Price: $399 (manufacturer direct)
Valentine One: 800/331-3030

You "keep getting speeding tickets"? My advice is either slow down or stop driving. Driving like that is going to end up hurting/killing someone - in a situation like that, you're going to jail, my friend.

No radar detector is going to save your sorry butt. I can lock my radar on within about 1-2 seconds, which is more than enough to convict you in court. No radar detector has that kind of response time - nor does the average person have that kind of response time.

I'll be watching for you........

I suggest you consider setting out your travel 15 (+/-) minutes early and save monies on those tickets and radar.

Don't buy one they are a waste of money if a cop gets your speed they can still pull you over even if you have one save your money you will need it for gas money.
