I heard that a surgeon should not be too old. Otherwise their hands will tremble. So even the older surgeons have extentive experience, they may not be the best choice.. So what age is the best for a surgeon? Thanks!

Now days, they are training surgeons pretty early, by the time they are 28-30 years old, they have completed their residencies and are out of school and doing surgery. So, I wouldn't suggest a surgeon who is freshly out of school, but someone who has had at least 10-15 years of experience. You also don't want a 70 year old doing surgeries on you.

Going to pre med takes about 4 yrs, then you go into internship in a hospital which takes another 4 yrs, then you go into a medical surgical residency program which takes another 6 yrs. Then surgeons go into fellowships and specialties which take forever. You almost will never meet a surgeon who is less than 40 yrs old
I prefer a surgeon who is in his 50's which says nothing at all about him because sometimes the new guys learn the best way to do a procedure and the surgeons who have been at it for awhle are sometimes out dated.
I nurse with about 6 general surgeons and if you want to know who the best surgeon is. Ask a RN who works with them in the hospital. We can tell you who to stay away from in private of course.

Probably someone who has been out of training for at least 5 years, so maybe someone in their 40s or 50s.
