If he is not gay, I will be surprised. He is actually "flaming" so to speak and is 18 yrs old. His dad thinks the reason he is not hanging out with girls is because he is focused on going to college and more interested in singing which he loves to do. He belongs to the musical groups and goes with girls, but has never really been interested in the women so to speak.
I could be wrong, but I seriously doubt it. How long does it take a person to "come out" and what is the best way to let someone know their preferences is ok with me? I think he is a great kid, but this will go over like a lead balloon in this macho like family full of 5 uncles and 4 brothers.

People come out when they're ready to come out. I work with a soldier who is effeminate, and have long suspected he is probably gay. But... don't ask, don't tell, right? He is as entitled to his own predilections as you are, and they are private. The decision to reveal belongs to him alone.

If you want to be there for him because you think that he needs support, then just be a friend. Be approachable and don't be judgmental. Don't make gay jokes, but don't try TOO hard, either (that is condescending).
