With some of the politicians suggesting the return of the draft, maybe it would be fairer if all males when they graduate from high school or turn 18 if they dropout went through basic military training. Women could volunteer. Then those individuals that like the life style can volunteer and those that don't can go home with a lot of practical knowledge under their belts. If it is still necessary to use the draft the soldiers will be ready in half the time.

That would really end a lot of the aimless wanderings of young men these days. Give them a purpose. Plus, we women are such suckers (pardon the pun) for a guy in military uniform.

**added, it's not a DRAFT you mentally slow and challenged people who referred to this type of action. It's simply a way of training all our citizens. People could enlist after if they choose, but enlisting wouldn't be mandatory (draft)

+++Jaqueess, dont' blame the parents, some people do all they can for their kids (ie:both of the VT killer's parents worked in a hot dry cleaners just to send him to that school) and the kids still turn out rotten.

In places like Germany, all males have to go to the military or do civic service for a year after high school. I don't think its that bad of an idea.

I think that it would be a GREAT IDEA!!!

It might actually make some of these "ENTITLEMENT Kids" a little more mature and not feeling quite so SPECIAL. Thety might also learn some discipline and responsibility that they never learned at home.

Once again, the govenment is doing the job that should have been done by the PARENTS.

I see blind men driving tanks, the mentally ill handling machine guns and guys with no arms carrying RPGs. That's what would happen if EVERY male had to go to basic training.

I think it would be a good idea. It would build character and help to make men out of boys. It would also foster patriotism, which we need now more than ever considering the comments from politicians like Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi.

I love how all the people who are all for a draft are either too old to have to put up with joe anymore, or never served in any branch of the military.

And yeah, if you're they're because the government says you're there it's a DRAFT.

I think instead we should force anyone who is a politician to serve a tour in the military. Maybe they would realize that the only politician that should be doing anything with the military is the PRESIDENT!

I think it is a great idea, not only would it instill discipline and responsibility in a society that really needs it, people would also appreciate the freedom that they enjoy if they actual had to help secure it.

my husband says the same thing. we wouldn't have a bunch of pimping, talking back, rude, drug using, good for nothing men in the world. young boys need discipline. why not have them ready for combat if need be.
