When you go to donate blood, they measure your hematocrit. It must be at least 38% for you to donate (because it will generally drop 3% after donation and they don't want you to get sick). It can be a sign of iron deficiency but could also be related to other things as well. You should visit your doctor just to make sure that it isn't too low and to find out the cause of your low hematocrit.

It sounds as even with the actuality that the GP is speaking about an endoscopy it truly is a digital camera that seems down into the tummy. He would nicely be wondering if she has a bleeding abdomen ulcer, so is growing anaemic via that. If her blood try confirmed VERY low ranges, i ought to have theory he ought to have stated a blood transfusion, and some investigations to ascertain the reason. Did he provide her a prescription for iron pills? Anaemia is a symptom, so something is causing it. You stated she has lost extremely some weight... i replaced into wondering ought to she have anorexia. i do not recommend to be a scare monger and also you for sure recognize your daughter, yet only a theory.

You should be at 38% iron levels. They should not have told you to see your dr though. My hubby was a phlebotomist, and had to do stuff like this all the time. You need to make sure you are getting plenty of protein and iron in your diet. Eat red meat, spinach, raisins, and other foods rich in iron. It should help. If you are consistenly low in iron, and suffer from fatigue, then you might try an iron supplement. If you are female, your menstrual cycle also affects your iron.

If you went to give blood and they tested you, then they probably did a haemoglobin test. If that is low, generally this means that you are low in iron. But there are other causes, such as blood loss, which should be investigated as well. I agree with them, if you could not donate blood, then you should see you doctor to get this investigated.
