hayleylov, I hate to agree with Lorenzo Cano on anything, but I do think he has hit on Bush's reasoning. The oil industry would profit, but the oil industry is multinational now, and we can't count on even 'our' countries as a quasi-strategic reserve anymore. So really, once again it is that business would benefit at the expense of the people.

(sorry, in the note above 'countries' should have read 'companies'.)

I think it is a little of each. The May 1st (a day without immigrants) walk out last year really woke some people up. All the Mexican flag waving shocked some people. The illegals have become bolder by asking for rights that are not theirs, rights that belong to American citizens, not illegal immigrants. It is funny there was a sign that was in the LA march last year saying the "Giant has awaken". LOL what is funny about this is they have awaken the American giant.

I also think with the talk of amnesty the past 2 years that there are more that have come hoping to be granted amnesty.

Thanks for the article DAR!!

It is more of a problem - since the numbers are increasing so rapidly. People are just more aware now. With the internet, news shows, radio programs - not to mention the massive influx of illegals within communities - one would have to be living in a bubble not to know about the problems.

I am glad that there is more being done. But even more needs to be done. We need to protect our borders and the citizens that live near those borders from those that are breaking known laws.

The problems that come about by this influx of law breaking peoples is something that many communities are having to face up to because of the problems that such has brought such as the gang problems that are coming over the southern border along with the drug problems.

I am glad to see that the businesses which hire illegal immigrants are being prosecuted with federal crimes by the U.S. Attorney's Office through ICE. It is about time.

The list of crimes at the bottom of the article - sadly doesn't shock. I just got off of a jury that was for capital murder - by Mexican gang member - where 4 people were shot, 2 died. Evidence was overwhelming and was convicted - 40 years, no chance to appeal, no good time given after he plea bargained after finding out that we found him guilty on all counts. All of us on the jury had police protection during the whole trial - sadly none now......

Yes, people are more aware now AND it is getting to be more and more of a problem every day.

both and think about our population growth is about to hit 300 million . to think no repercussions of all this is going to happen is crazy not only for us but for mexico as well while we will grow more crowded and poorer mexico will be more spacious and richer but in the wrong hands wait kinda like now anyway and what about all the old people they are leaving behind over there

i did read a article by Lorenzo Cano is a long-time political activist and a veteran of the Chicano Movement. He has lectured extensively on issues pertinent to the Chicano and Chicana community in the United States and is one of the founders and a contributing writer to La Nueva Raza. He currently teaches at the University of Houston.
i thought it was interesting one that suggested that the proposed north American union is a way to get mexico's land and oil
funny hes here and all his people are running here and he thinks this . sorry got off your question a bit .

While its always been a problem in the border states.I do believe that because of the marches and civil disobedience of the illegals and their supporters, that people that didn't feel the threat as strongly, now know it for what it is. An illegal invasion and occupation of the USA. The Marxist supporters of groups like La Raza Unida and The Brown Berets have increased the visibility to the nation of the illegal aliens. And the public now sees that not all of the illegal aliens come to America simply seeking the proverbial better life.
Some are on a direct path to trying to destroy this nation from within its own borders.

The action below is one of the best that my state of Arizona has,it empowers the police to help ICE,thus helping our state and nation.

"If police or sheriff deputies suspect someone to be illegally in the country, ICE agents are now called out to make the determination of nationality and if the suspects are illegally in the country they call for the Detention and Removal Team".

Once upon a time you had to go through Ellis Island to get into this country on just a temporary basis. To be legal you had to speak American, know most of our laws and swear allegiance to our flag. America was founded on immigration however most wanted to work were honest and loyal to our country. WE don't need some poor people coming over burning the flag my Fathers died for it is a HUGE problem!!
We need to FIX it NOW!!!

It's becoming more of a problem because of increased number of illegals, increased crime committed by illegals, increased expense for local services caused by illegals, a whole host of problems. It's now like where you once saw one cockroach now you see one hundred. It will keep getting worse, too.

It used to be a boarder states problem and now it is a problem all over the country.
I have kind of changed my opinion, in MN. without the illegals crops would not get harvested, the average Minnesotan does not want to do that work unless he or she is a farmer. The pay is great but these people don't want to work that hard. Illegals are getting good money to do very hard work, that would not get done otherwise.

It's been a huge problem for years and now people are sick of it. The borders will be secure within 5 years.

the illegals can only thank them self's for having their marches and burning our flag, that has woken all America up. it is up to each state to enforce their laws. it is up to each state to take care of it's people. that's why they raise taxes. it is up to each state to listen to it's American and legal citizens to enforce the laws. we the citizens of the united states have been woken, and now it's time to hear us roar. we want our laws enforced when it comes to invaders. maybe if we roar louder we can stop bushes north union screw up.

I think it's a bigger problem, based on the numbers. AND, people are more aware. People are talking about it and screaming about it. We must continue to scream about it!
