I'm reading a book called A life in Bondage By Ann Eliza Young. Brigham Young Apostate Wife written 1875.
Sad thing is the people were killed to save their souls. Brigham Young taught Blood Atonement people had to died for their sins to be saved. Jesus Christ only died for some sins.
John D Lee was scapegoat for the crime.
He was order by church leaders to carry out the attack.
Church cover up the fact the Brigham Young order people to be killed. John D lee
Porter Rockwell, Bill Hickman did killings for the prophet Brigham Young.
The church is not honest about what happened Sept 11,1857

As far as I know, the church doesn't TEACH anything about it. We know it was a bad time in church history. But, so was all the killing that went on in Missouri, only it was armed Missourians attacking and killing unarmed Mormons. You have things like that happen to you often enough, and eventually, you're going to get "punch drunk". According to some, some of the Fancher party bragged all along the trail, thatthey had been n the mob that killed Joseph Smith, that had been at Haun's mill, and Far West, and all the ther places that the Mormons built up only to be kicked out. That doesn't excuse what happened, but might explain it.

This terrible tragedy is not taught within the Church, but it still lies in the shadows. To understand how it came about I strongly urge the sincere to study the history and persecution of the Church that began in New York, Illinois, and in Missouri. Even more are lessons learned after the trek to the Salt Lake Basin when U.S. Army troops marched upon the Mormon settlements.

Such an occurrence can in no way be condoned, but understanding the backgrounds of what brought this massacre to the forefront might shed a gentler light upon all.

The only comforting thought is time heals.

They deny that the church had anything to do with it. They say that only a few rogue individuals acted on their own outside church authority. However, Brigham Young made comments that the Fancher party deserved what happened for making disparaging comments about the church while passing through Utah on the way to California. Don't believe people like Mormon_4_Jesus above when they try to cover for the church and say that the incidents at places like Hauns mill were "Massacres". At Hauns Mill, it was a gunfight that the Mormons lost badly. They also try to say Joseph Smith was a "Martyr" who gave up hios life for the Lord. Another lie. Joseph Smith also had a gun and killed 2 of his attackers before being killed himself. The Mormons naturally will always try to sugarcoat anything that shows their true nature and make everyone else look like they are persecuting them for no reason. Maybe if they werent running around trying to steal other peoples wives back in the old days of Polygamy they would not have been getting shot at so much. BTW, in 1950, the church pardoned John D. Lee (The only man to face the firing squad for the murders of 140 U.S. Citizens) and restored him posthumously to the priesthood. Apparantly murder is not a sin if your victims aren't Mormons.

It teaches that
#1 We are all children of God
#2 We will all be held accountable for out thoughts, words, deeds and actions, every single person no matter what

So, whatever happened in that tragic event, God knows and he will sort out. I don't worry about it.

One of the best kept secrets in mormon history. There is a movie coming out this spring about it called "September Dawn"
