Most likely it's the Golden Rule. It's very common in Hinduism and Christianity. And it is extremely focused on in Buddhism and Taoism.
Love one another isn't common to all religions. Islam encourages denouncing non-Muslims and Mormons demand cutting off practically all contact with non-Mormons or at least non-Christan's.
So, treat others as you would wish to be treated.

Notice that of all the religions/beliefs in the world - only one speaks of needing Jesus as a Savior through his shed blood on the cross for the remission of sins.
The common thread of all the religions of the world point to MAN who provides his own redemption. That is every man must atone for his own soul.
Christian Science - denies the cleansing blood of Jesus to pay the sin debt
Spiritualism - There is no atoning value in the death of Jesus
Theosophy - An ordinary being must pass through some 800 incarnations before he can complete his purification from sin
Unity - Through the mind of man the earth will be redeemed from all imperfections and harmony and order will be restored.
Modern Theology - Everyman must atone for his own soul.
I could go on, but it seems to me if only one is so different from all the others, wouldn't you think there is something to that one? Isn't it worth checking out?

There are a lot of Christians, Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, Sihks and others who believe that killing in "certain" circumstances can be "justified".
However, ALL the above have been taught that to love (respect) God, our Creator, with their whole being and above all earthly "things" and to think and act with compassion and forgiveness toward their fellow (wo)men is the right way for any person to live and achieve inner PEACE.
According to those wisdoms killing, or even hating and judging, is Not an option. (Someone should tell G.W. Bush! He claims to be a Christian! or others who claim to kill in the name of "religion".)
Just imagine! If all Christians, Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, Sihks and Jews would willingly (not because they have been told) act out of compassion toward the "others" (as they were taught!) there truly would be peace on Earth!
Unfortunately we are not perfect and to bear "our cross" often seems too hard (or illogical, or "unscientific). - No, I'm not perfect either!
That's why we have to learn to be honest to ourselves and admit that we have failed, again and again and again, and resolve to (at least try to) do better next time!
Because WE are not perfect we also have to forgive others for offences they may have committed against us.
We can then ask for forgiveness and get "peace of mind" - until the next time.
As someone put it: "To love (I don't mean sex) is the answer - whatever the question".

Many of the major monotheistic religions of the world have the same basis, the first 5 chapters of the Bible. In that you will find the 10 commandments.
But if it were only one, I agree that most of them would use the Golden Rule...Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
Unfortunately, so many people die each year fighting over whose religiion is right, it doesn't seem to be commonly held belief.

The real "commandment" would be "Do unto others..." or "Love one another". But what most seem to practice is "Have no tolerance toward those who believe differently".
We know of at least three organized religions that believe they have the only truth, while others should be punished and shunned.

Love.
Forgive.
Give.
Give yourself.
Give yourself in service, compassion, and love for others.
Lift up humanity.
Live.
--> I am an atheist and do not doubt that this stands for
Judaism
Xianity
Islam
Hinduism
Buddhism
Sikhism
Jainism
Zoroastrianism
Wicca & other earth-based religions
and every religion that, regardless of its theology and what it emphasizes in its philosophy, has a heart of peace and/or love.
And without a doubt, this is God's commandment to all of us and what it means to have God in us/God's will carried out.

Thou shalt love the Lord they God and all of His children with thine whole heart and mind and soul and strength. It is so simple: if we do that and stop believing that we are better than, entitled to more than, should have a right to what you have without paying what you want for what you have--then there would be peace in this sustainable quarantine station called "earth."
That is the promise that Abraham made to God for all of his seed for all generations. See why God said that brother would fight against brother? Because the seed of Abraham would take their covenant for granted and break it repeatedly, God allowed the Gentiles, "wild olive" or "adoption" status, and since the generational traits of the parents of the gentiles were generations of war, plunder and theft of: lands, gold, and minerals, it stands to reason that in the end times we would have a recipe for antagonism, greed and selfishness.
Since Satan is the chief antagonist--perpetrator of hate, just think who we are pleasing with our "JUST WARS."

Its really hard to say. If you include all religions you'd have to include satanism, atheism, and others in with Christianity, Islam, and Buddhism. They all have opposing view. If I were to say they had a common thread it would be live your life for this purpose_______.

As a 'non-religious' person the only one that matters to me and I follow it is this:
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you
or
An it harm none do as you will
To me that is all life is about..
