Spiritroaming is correct in terms of modern Christianity. An apologist is a defender of the faith in Christian circles. I don't know if it means the same for other topics or religions.

In Christianity can be termed "Crusader." In reality, the term "Defender of the faith" has long been an honorary term for kings, queens and the pope in Christendom. The Queen of England's title still includes it.

They were called Knights, and most were bishops. Before the schism in the 10th century, monastic orders were frequently military and comparable to what might be called rapid-response units in today's military parlance. Knights were the leading monks of a military order, led by a warrior-bishop.
They were very good at defending the Faith.

there are many ways to defend ones religion...
a true believer of any religion will know how to LOVE
and would be able to defend by LOVE not WAR
so i hope all defenders of religion be called "Lovers for GOD" and NOT warriors of god....
