yes its very bad to separate kittens at this age. some say 2 do it around 6wks but ive notice that the long the kitten is wean, the more calmer and loveing it can be. its the whole mamas baby thing. i sometimes let mine continue until the mom gets sick of it and have it move on which is normally around 3-5months.
if you separate it now it can cause serious damage and death.

Three weeks is way too soon!!! The kittens not only need to be fed by the mother naturally but they also need the warmth and tenderness that the mother cat gives them. The mother will wean the kittens as she sees fit. Also the whole litter doesn't wean off at the same time. They also get to interact with the other kittens which makes them playful. If you give them away too soon the new owner will be listening to a crying kitten all night. Then you will be getting the kitten back!!!! Be patient and enjoy the little ones while you have them.

Yes! At that time, they are still nursing from their mother. The mother cat will naturally start to wean them around 6-8 weeks by pushing them away and not letting them nurse. She will continue to teach them all sorts of valuable things, though, like using a litter box. It's best to keep the kittens with mother until at least 8 weeks, or longer. Many reputable breeders will not relinquish kittens to new owners until 12 weeks.

Yes...wait at least till they are 12 weeks..let them get the feeling of trust, companionship for there brothers and sisters. Or you are going to be dealing with some crazed out kittens that no one can handel. Do you know how they say a child will die without the touch of their mother or father, Well this is the same case ...you dont wanna push them out into the world yet without the guidense of there mother.

OH MY GOD!!!!! THIS IS SO IMPORTANT.TAKE THEM AWAY AT 3 WEEKS AND YOU ARE EFFECTIVELY KILLING THEM! At 3 weeks they have only just opened there eyes and are not yet even steady on there feet. They need to stay with there mother for at least 10wks but 12 is even better and mum needs to have lots of nourishing food as she will get very weak if not and produce rich milk. She will eat at least three times her usual amount of food, and I hope you gave her extra when she was pregnant also when the kittens start to wean give them as much KITTEN FOOD as they want. If you are going to keep animals you have to be responsible for there welfare. PLEASE! I wouldn't let mine go until 13 wks and it showed, the new owners vets were very pleased at how healthy and strong they were. Just like any babies its so important to have a good start. I also have to DISAGREE with the person who said "you know your kitty best 5wks is ok" its absolutely not ok that still is far to young. mothers milk is how there bodies start to build antibodies to help protect them from disease and in that time mum also teaches them lots of life skills they need to know, playing with there siblings is also teaching them preparing for there life without there mother. Lastly be very careful who you home them with there is so much cruelty out their, and home them in pairs if you can that way they always have each other oh yes and before they go buy a few toys and little blankets that they can start sleeping on/playing with a few wks before they go, so when they do go you send these toys and blankets with them unwashed, as they will have the scents of there mother and siblings which will be a great comfort to them in the first few week.

YES! Kittens need to be able to nurse for a MINIMUM of 5 weeks to produce healthy cats. During the nursing period they receive not only nutrients, but essential antibodies which help them avoid colds and common illnesses. Also, at only 3 weeks they cannot properly eat or digest "real" food and are still VERY reliant on milk for the majority of their nutrients.

Unless you are planning on hand feeding them with a bottle and taking over for the mother, then you will have some very passed away kittens in a couple of days.

yes it is too soon to separate kittens from their mother, this will kill them cause they are still feeble and helpless. mom will not get the chance to teach the different techniques that a cat must know. give them at least 12 weeks

Yes, they must stay with their mother at least 8 weeks. They still need her and
Mom has a way of weaning them off. If you are giving them away you have to
wait that long and then some. When our friend lost one of her cats, 3 days later
she went to the humane society. She chose a mother cat and was told that she
had to take the son as well. Our friends son and his wife were named 'godparents' if anything happened to our friend. 4 years later the two cats have
provided entertainment for our friend and for us.

Yes, kittens should not be removed from their mother & litter mates until 8 weeks, minimum. 12 weeks is even better.

Kittens are not fully weaned until 5-7 weeks old.
