I just downloaded limewire because one of my friends told me it was legal to put my songs onto my ipod for PERSONAL use. Will i get sued for this.. is it legal?!

i dont pay for the songs.. and i dont upload.
i just get songs, and then drag them into itunes to put on my ipod.
am i going to get in trouble for this?

LimeWire itself is not illegal. If the songs you are downloading are copyrighted, then what you are doing is illegal, but believe me, you aren't alone in doing this. If the songs have been previously recorded and released to the public, then you can download the music without a problem.

If you have iPod, you should be using iTunes. What does this have to do with Limewire?
Limewire itself is NOT illegal. However, most people use it to violate other people's copyright, which is illegal. Sharing your songs with other people is illegal since your usage license you get as owner of CD does NOT include a license to "share" or "broadcast". And that's what RIAA/MIAA usually go after: the people who SHARE, not the people who download.
Your friend is misinformed or you did not transcribe his remarks fully.

What your friend told you was wrong. The act of download music that's under copyright without paying for it is illegal. It doesn't matter if you just use it in your iPod, it's still illegal and you can still be sued for doing it.

Limewire is not illegal but downloading copyrighted contact (ie your favorite artist's songs) is. Though it is illegal lots of people still use it.
