Friend, where did you get the idea that 666 is the devils number? Did others teach you to accept that or is it something you did reason out?
I see in one answer a Bible quote is given that says: Revelation 13:18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six. Another Bible quote says this:" This calls for wisdom; let him who has understanding reckon the number of the beast., for it is a human number. its number is six hundreds and sixty six." [of course it is seen as 666]
In the later quote I see the word "Its" rather than a personal pronoun of "his". I also see it is a human number which seems to assign a source. However I only see an identification of it being a mark and nothing said about it being a name of a man. I see nothing here that says the number 6 is evil or good.
As I do read the answers you received I do see a lot of religion in them and a lot of doctrines learned from others. I see very little of deep consideration of what is actually declared in the Bible in the precise words quoted.
Is it not that all have seen the mark with this number as being your question and not the actual question you ask in "Why is 666 the devils number?"
If you meant to say "Why is it that all see the mark of the or the mark with the 666 as being other than good or as being a follower of the devil then that is what you should have stated.
If I am wrong, please do forgive me, but I am just enjoying myself and actually stating what I do see. Such is because that this is my pure innate nature because I am a "NO"..
Do have a good day.

In Jewish literature the number 6 stands for imperfection. The devil being imperfect, can not be given a number 7 because it stands for perfection which can only be given to God.
Peace and every blessing!

It's from Revelations... "Let him who hath understanding reckon the number of the beast, for it is a human number. Its number is 666."
In many ancient languages, letters had associated numeric values. When John wrote that in Revelations, he was referring to the beast...an agent of satan and persecutor of Christians. He was most probably referring to the behavior of Ceasar Nero...the letters in his name add up to 666.
No 777 in the Bible

Revelation 13:18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.
Six in Biblical mathematics is weakness of man, evils of satan, manifestation of sin.
Wisdom comes from knowledge, and all wisdom is from God, from wisdom comes understanding. We were told to "count the number of the beast". This was written in Greek, and the Greek word means more then counting numbers.
count 5585 yhfizw psephizo psay-fid'-zo
from yhfoV - psephos 5586; to use pebbles in enumeration, i.e. (generally) to compute:--count.
Calculate by counting the stones that are warn smooth over a long period of time.
Their rock(Duet 32:21), is not our Rock (Duet 32:4), and his stones are not our Stones, is what the overcomers will sing, as the Song of Moses tells us in Deuteronomy 32. God is our Rock, and Satan is the false rock, but which stones are we to count?
The stones are the number of man, that man is Satan, and if you know Satan you will know his children. The stones are his children. The "mark of the beast" number [6-6-6] then is to count, or know Satan's children over a long period of time. They are the "Kenites", the offspring of Cain, who was the child of Satan, through Eve, who was beguiled in the Garden of Eden.
Satan also comes in the 6th seal, 6th trumpet, and 6th vial.

666 stands for the number of the name of a man. The beast or anti-christ.

It's actually 999 -- the number used in the UK for calling in an emergency. I guess that means the UK is the site of the coming Armageddon.
Or not.

The number 6 is associated with a symbol for evil
So three 6's means three evils.
Instead of the Holy Trinity, which is
* God = divine/collective, love, truth, good will,
the author of Life, Father in heaven/kingdom of God
* Christ = justice with mercy, true governance by conscience, the word or law of God incarnate
* Holy Spirit = spirit of the Mother church, of comfort, peace, healing and harmony with others and with God, through grace and "charity" which is the meaning of "Christianity"
There is the opposite:
* Satan = selfishness, ignorance, fear, falseness, distrust, separation from truth
* Antichrist = false government or control, corruption, abuse, oppression, fear of change and conflict
* False Prophet = false teaching/religion, divisive or hateful speech, anything that invokes war, conflict and disharmony
These are collective elements in all humanity, and also individual components in each person. We are all physical, psychological and spiritual beings, so together human nature reflects a "trinity" from the physical level of earth to the divine level of collective humanity, and the psychological level of conscience that joins the two. Where we are joined in Christ, in the spirit of truth love and charity, then we are one with each other as one church or one people, and one with God.
But when we are separated or in conflict, when we cannot forgive and cannot receive healing, we lose that harmony and balance that is meant to unite us as one in spirit. So the point is to address and resolve anything negative in our hearts, minds, souls and bodies that keeps us from achieving heaven on earth by perfecting harmony on all three levels.
Note: There is a basic trinity in all religions and systems that reflect human nature individually and collectively. Even the U.S. government is based on a trinity since the Constitution was inspired by natural laws universal to all humanity. So by joining together in Christ or by conscience to receive and fulfill God's will or good for all humanity, then all tribes are joined as one in spirit, even if we express our laws and truths through different languages or religions. We may be grouped as different cousins, but we are destined to reconcile as one family under God's truth that embraces us and all human history.
