Find the hottest one you can - hotter temperatures will work better on thick, curly hair =)

a wet to dry one, no effin doubt about that. blow drying, then flat ironing takes forever if you have thick hair because it takes so much longer (my sister can blow-dry and straighten in 20-25 minutes, it took me like an hour, our hair is the same length but mine is very thick and hers is very fine). with a wet-to-dry straightener you can straighten right out of the shower, and even my very-very cheap one has like 30 different heat settings from mildly warm to scorching hot (i can barely get past the half-way point, thats how hot it gets, haha). ceramic plates are worth the investment if you have the money (they can get a bit pricey).

ceramic. and professional. you'll need one that gets really hot since you have thick hair. i know some people who have the 100$ corioliss straightener. and it gets the job done. reachs somehing like 250 degrees

i am not sure but if you get any that aren't 100% ceramic it slowly damages your hair. look for the really expensive one. it always work best.
