Beast gave you the best answer. We don't know what Joseph was or was not wearing also, I am sure there are MANY things that happened and that were said the Joseph that we don't know and don't really need to. Whether he wore shoes or not, doesn't change any doctrine.
Also- to Jason W - if you read Joseph's account, he claims to have seen two personages one pointed to the other and said "This is my Beloved Son, Hear Him." Now, being a smart person, I would think one could put the info together here and infer that God the Father pointed to His Son, Jesus Christ and told Joseph "Hear Him." He also saw and spoke with other persons - such as Moroni, who was a resurrected being. You need to look up the definition of an angel, because "angel" can be many different things.

Depends which 'First Vision" you're referring to. there are three recorded, but only one 'official' one written in 1838, some 18 years after the fact.
The other two mention only a visitation from god or just a bunch of angels. Google 'First Vision Joesph Smith' for all sorts of information from both sides of the fence.
But the short answers are:
#1, these Visitors never actually touched the ground, they levitated.
#2, Joseph Smith was completely unaware or ignorant of any Judaic customs as evidenced in his Book of Mormon.
#3, It never really happened. Why would god choose a megalomaniacal narcissic pedophile to deliver His Word who could even get his own story straight?
I'd go with number three.

Well you see, Joseph Smith was holier that most people. He was a prophet and was actually going to become like Jesus himself....
Joseph Smith understood that Jesus Christ used to be a regular human. Jesus just got his divine position by being good. Joseph Smith knew that as Jesus Christ was, so are we. As Jesus Christ became, so we may become. You can become a God too and populate your own celestial kingdom. You just need to join LDS and participate in secret ceremonies.
Anyway, when the Bible says no one will see God and live, it is talking about God the Father/Creator, not Jesus. Lots of people saw Jesus and lived. The apostles did, Mary did, Pilate did, Joseph Smith did..

There are actually a couple Biblical references of people talking with the Lord face to face. This is a few I quickly pulled from a Biblical topical Guide - look 'em up as you like:
Gen. 32: 30 I have seen God face to face.
Ex. 33: 11 And the LORD spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend.
Deut. 34: 10 Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face.
Ezek. 20: 35 plead with you face to face.
As far as the shoes go: We don't know if he was asked to remove them or not - Joseph Smith's account is a summary of their conversation, Joseph Smith wrote in his official account of the vision the following: "and many other things did he say unto me, which I cannot write at this time." It can be assumed that many things were said which we simply to do not have a court stenographer style word-for-word record of.

He didn't know enough about the Bible to get the story straight . He just made the whole thing up and sold it to a bunch of gullible people so he wouldnt have to do an honest days work like the rest of us. One day a travelling circus was going through town and he bought some old Egyptian Papyrusses with writing on them. Nobody could read Egyptian back then so he told everyone he could "Translate" them with the help of his magic hat. He sold it to everyone as "The Book of Abraham" .If it were true, it would have been the greatest Archaeological find in history. Now , we can read Egyptian and know he was a total fraud. Thats one of many reasons why they kept getting run out of every place they went in the early days.

some say you can't see god and live but there's at least two examples in the bible, I can think of, which suggest otherwise.
In Exodus, Moses asks God for a sneaky peek at his 'Glory' and God obliges by letting him see his 'back parts'. ..... I wonder what that was really about??!!

verses 18-23
Then there's the time Ezekiel was sitting at home with a few buddies for company and God suddenly turned up and dragged him away by the hair for a vision or two. He got to see God's front parts!!!.

verse 2
Let's not get started picking inconsistencies out from religions. You could waste your entire life doing that.
All you need to know is, you just can't trust anything religious people say.

I bellieve that it is a lie. He didn't really see God and Jesus. Joseph Smith was a mere man that people have created a religion around

Joseph Smith was from a family of liars and cheats. He never met with God or Jesus, he supposedly met with the Angel Moroni. There is no evidence to substantiate his claim, yet a religion (cult ) was founded on his say so.

He was transfigured. No one can see God in their mortal state and live.
As for not being ordered to remove his shoes... where does it say anywhere that he wasn't? Who said he was even wearing shoes? He was planning to have a spiritual experience with his first vocal prayer, maybe he didn't wear any shoes. His choice of footwear, or lack thereof, is fairly unimportant to the entire event.
