A shorter rear gear will help the tow capacity, but will also hurt mileage and my mess up the computer (turning too many rpms for a given speed). I'm not sure if OBDII applies to trucks - you may want to check this. You should also add an additional transmission cooler - heat kills transmissions. The tongue weight may not change much, so stronger springs are probably not necessary, unless you're already sagging.

Put in a tranny cooler and separate trailer braking system will help increase capacity, make sure tires on truck are inflated to their max pressure.

you should go to a leaf and spring rebuilder and let that company help you design the tow load you want.... it just might be that all you need a dually and that would make the 5th wheel run right for you ................
