Go ahead and tell your friend how you feel about her loss because she needs to know that someone cares. Losing a pet can have a tremendous effect upon a person's life. When I was a little girl my brother and I had a dog we loved very much and one night someone poisoned her. Although I am no longer a child I will never forget about the pain that someone's cruel behavior inflicted upon an innocent animal and upon our entire family. God bless you for your kindness towards your friend.

You have already said how sorry you are. Personally, I would not mention it again. Try to find things to get her mind off of it. Losing a pet companion of 14 years is a hard loss.

You have to give her a proper condolences, that's the thing to do when someone loses a loved one. Everything will probably make her cry, why don't you frame a pic of her and the dog so that she can always remember it.

Yes, it would be really nice to send a card and let her know you are there if she wants to talk about it. Later, maybe you could take her to the local humane society to look at puppies.

Right now she will break into tears over her loss and it is comforting when someone understands. So many people think people shouldn't get so emotional over a pet, but I and many others do. So be just as comforting to her as you can.
