For me - the only way to be wise is through God - and His word.
Psalm 119:97-100 How I love your law! I think about it all day long. Your commandment is with me all the time and makes me wiser than my enemies. I understand more than all my teachers, because I meditate on your instructions. I have greater wisdom than those who are old, because I obey your commands.
Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but the foolish despise wisdom and instruction.
James 1:5 But if any of you lack wisdom, you should pray to God, who will give it to you; because God gives generously and graciously to all.
Colossians 2:2b-3 ...In this way they will know God's secret, which is Christ himself. He is the key that opens all the hidden treasures of God's wisdom and knowledge.
His word is peace - and life to me.

Wisdom is the practical use of knowledge gained. You will find that there are some wonderful people who have no trouble at all in gaining knowledge (& everyone will know of one person), but they don't have the ability to transfer that knowledge into everyday life. (you also have the opposite as well people who stuggle to gain knowledge but have no problem once gained in using it)

It's ultimate source is in God. As far as man is concerned, the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. (Proverbs)

It begins in knowing you know nothing but striving to learn as much as you can. It keeps you humbled and tolerant of others. It keeps you humbled by knowing someone always knows more than you and tolerant because those whos beliefs, culture, or physical features are different have more knowledge of being their religion, culture, race, etc. than you do.

With not blindly obeying some words that have been translated 4 times and were originally written by someone who never lived through the events.
You only have to look at the Bush-WMD story to realize falsehoods can be created in a year that lead nations to war.
