what is wrong with my ear piercing. I got it done a year and a half ago at claires. ive always had trouble taking the stud out, so I usually leave one stud in for months. today my piercing was crusty and wet stuff was leaking out. I also is a little itchy. And when i go like 30min without turning it its hard to turn and hurts when I first try to turn it. one of my friends said I might be having an allergic reaction to the studs I always use. I dont know if its hard to take out becuase I always have trouble taking it out. My other friend said this is ok and the same thing used to happen to her. she said I could research my condition and not worry about it.

So....

does this sound like a allergic reaction?
could a skin condition be resonsible for this?
I ha exzema behind my ears when I was younger could exzema be resopnsilble?
what should I do to make my ears better and stop leaking and getting crusty

It could be either a slight infection or an allergic reaction. Try swabbing your earlobes with hydrogen peroxide and go a day or 2 without earrings (that's what i had to do when mine got a bit infected). You could also maybe
switch to hypo-allergenic earrings (they should be available at Claire's) that don't contain nickel (which is usually the culprit of piercing allergies). If neither of those work, it could be the ecsema and you may need to see a doctor/dermatologist or stop wearing earrings. But try these first because it does sound to me like an infection/allergic reaction that could be easily treated.

It's possible that you could be allergic. You might want to find some earrings that are meant for sensitive ears (they say so on the label...or just get the 14k gold ones).

The itchy, crusty, wet stuff means that at some point that its gotten infected. Try cleaning the earrings and soaking your ears in hydrogen peroxide, it'll clear it up within a week.

As due to experience, the studs from Claires are harder to take out, since they have a little ridge that keeps them in place.

You may want to do some further research to see if exzema had a role in the infection.

okay, if you can change the stud to a sleeper, then buy some rubbing alcohol or piercing solution and at least twice a day put some on your sleeper and turn it through your ear this will help clear up what seem to be an infection. if you can put on a sleeper then you'll just have to try your best to put the solution on the stud and move it around a little, also other then when your putting the solution on your earring try not to play with it too much. if it doesnt start clearing up just pop in to your local doctors/chemist/piercing shop and they should be able to point you in the right direction.

Most likely it's a reaction to the jewelry. You need to get some good quality ear rings. Implant grade steel or titanium are the best. They come in a variety of styles and the titanium comes in many different colours. Look for 18 gauge jewerly (either on-line or though your local piercing studio). Your ears won't get better untill you get some good jewelry in them.

I agree that this does sound like a nickel allergy. My daughter and I both have this. The solution is to wear IMPLANT Surgical Steel. A lot of places sell "surgical steel Jewelery, but make sure that it is the implant surgical steel- 100 percent nickel free.
Good Luck!

You could have an allergy to nickle. My daughter and sister have this. Try using nickle-free earrings and see if you notice any differerence. Good luck!

you could try using a q-tip dipped in peroxide to heal it and if that doesn't work you might have to take the stud out
