I have a cat. He seems to be happy and well-adjusted. But he lives inside a relatively small apartment and never leaves it. He is very afraid to go outside the apartment, even to the hallway. And he is terrified of any noise and he would not wear a collar or a leash. I feel sorry that I can not take him out to the street or to the park in summer. What woud you advise?

If he seems happy (lively and playful, eating well) then he probably is - cats can do perfectly well as indoor cats. If he doesn't seem interested in leaving the apartment, you don't have to make him!

Yes cats can get depression where they don't eat as much or seem very active. But if yours seems OK no need to worry! You could buy extra toys for him if you think he might become bored - kitty toys, cat nip, a nice scratch post. Perhaps you could take him outside if he doesn't mind - you can get cat harnesses. You need to get him used to wearing this inside though before you introduce him to the outside!

Good luck, doesn't sound like you have anything to worry about at the moment.

you do not say how long you have had the recent cat. it could pick a sprint greater time. additionally, what's her historic past? grew to become into she abused? this could clarify why she needs to cover. Any time you herald a sparkling cat you may anticipate some combative behaviour as the two certainly one of them attempt to handle who's boss. How previous is your previous cat? A generational distinction could desire to be the difficulty. that's pity which you probably did not take your previous cat with you to the preserve to pick her very own important different. and of course there is likewise the prospect that your previous cat has grow to be depressed not because of the recent cat's behaviour yet because of the fact of her presence! She might basically desire to not have an important different - she enjoys being your basically cat. additionally, how do you recognize what is going on between them once you're away? Cats have a knack for behaving in any different case whilst their vendors are around than whilst they are away. So, basically wait and notice and notice how issues flow. it may well be now difficult on the recent cat if she had to flow decrease back to the preserve after ultimately getting a house. supply her a wager and that i'm useful you isn't sorry.

Cats are more sensitive than dogs and they can hold a grudge! The last time i went overseas my cat ran away when i came home! he was gone for 6 months. He returned when he was good and ready. Now he is happy here again. If this is the only home your cat knows,he wont be bored.Just remember that you are all he has so when you are home give him loads of love and attention. This gives him something to look forward to when you are gone. Dont worry about a leash as knowing cats,he probably wont like it.He obviously feels safe in your apartment and you are his whole world. That is enough for most animals to never venture out of their surroundings.
Im glad you asked this as most people wouldnt even think about their cats feelings.Good luck . I have had many pets in my time and understanding them is paramount!

My cats are complete inside cats, but they LOVE an open window (with a screen). Try leaving the window open and maybe he will get use to the sounds.
You could always play with him more and keep him active with toys and scratching posts.

There are harnesses that you can use to make sure that if you do take him out he wont get lose. But if you do try to take him out, make sure to get him use to the leash and gradually take him out. Start with the hallway until he gets use to that then go a little farther, and then go farther, etc. BUT NEVER LET HIM OUT BY HIMSELF!!

Toys or a playmate to ensure the cat gets enough exercise to be healthy.

Cats can definitely get depressed. When my husband and I first moved to a new home we were very busy and didn't have time to unpack everything, particularly our painting supplies. Gracie, however, had been raised as an artists cat. For over a month she laid around and just got fat. She slept constantly and just moped. Then one day we unpacked our painting supplies and as old smells filled the house, we suddenly had our old Gracie back. Everything had changed for her, including the way the air smelled.

buy cat toys and play with your cat indoors and open the front door and set at it and see if the cat comes up to you. You can always buy a leash and take the cat outside by carrying him or her and let the cat see that it is ok

Consider getting another cat to be a buddy for him. Make sure he has toys and a window to look out of. Play with him whenever you can.

Cats do not need to go outside to be happy. As long as he has food, water, and your attention, he is fine.
