I came across this bit in the Bible: "If a man be wounded in the stones, or hath his privy member cut off, he shall not enter into the congregation of the Lord." I'm not going to go into the details of my accident, but I'm told the Bible was inspired by God and God doesn't change His mind, does He? So it seems I'm not allowed to go into the congregation of the Lord. But if I got surgery and maybe got myself fixed up again, would I be allowed then?

I misquoted slightly from memory. Here it is, with chapter and verse. I'm adding the next bit too: "He that is wounded in the stones, or hath his privy member cut off, shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD. A b*****d shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD; even to his tenth generation shall he not enter into the congregation of the LORD. An Ammonite or Moabite shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD; even to their tenth generation shall they not enter into the congregation of the LORD for ever." (Deuteronomy 23: 1-3, King James Version.) The thing is, while my family are nowadays very respectable, I'm not sure I could swear for everyone back to the seventeen hundreds or whatever. And I have this nagging feeling that I might have an ancestor or two who was an Ammonite or a Moabite. Am I cast out for ever?

What about other men of faith who were made eunuchs? Daniel 1:6 Daniel, Hananiah, Mishawl & Azariah. All men of great faith.
Jesus said that some people are born eunuchs & some make themselves eunuchs for the cause of the Gospel. Only some people can receive this truth.
This particular verse you are worried about was associated with cult activity of a different neighboring people. And for the same reason as kllstads verses wrote regarding bastards. They were bastards of the neigboring people who were idolaters.
Look at it this way, if you had your privy member cut off in a cult activity, it is a sin. But Jesus shed His own blood for the remission of our sins. So when we are born of His Spirit, cleansed by His blood, His blood covers this sin and all others & we are made the righteousness of Christ. When God looks at us, God looks at the righteousness of His Son. Nothing we do or did can make us any more or less righteous. Christ righteousness is Christ gift for us so we can have everlasting life. So, as a Christian you are circumsized of the heart. God writes His law of liberty in our hearts. Our spirit is born again but our body is corruptible. When redemption day comes, we are raised up a spirit, soul & everlasting body with no physical handicaps. We are like Jesus when He raised from the dead.

NAME THE BOOK, CHAPTER AND VERSE PLEASE
Thank you!
What you must remember is a couple of things...
1. You must remember you are talking about the O/T laws...which do not apply to New Testament Christians...Jesus fulfilled those laws and we live under grace now.
2. For what ever reason this was said I really don't know but unless you are a student wanting a good grade I would not worry about it.
3. It is possible that having the penis cut off could very well be applied toward men who felt they were women, just as to day we have men who have sex change operations...
4.Even that sin can beforgiven if the person repents.
5.Even (if) the curse of generations were still applicable a generation back then was only figured at about 30 years, that is only 300 years from the time the curse was stated.
6.It has been well over 3,000 years since that curse was stated.
Go to Church, Praise God...God bless you

Deuteronomy 23:1 "Rev" oh and a few other good Christians that have never read that.... sheesh
I think I counted six so far without a clue. Makes me nuts.
you better have a daddy too: 23:2 A bastard shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD; even to his tenth generation shall he not enter into the congregation of the LORD.
Make sure they do a good job fixing it because Lev.21:17-23 wont let you in with a blemish.

First, who's going to know? You weren't planning to broadcast this information, or specifically tell the minister/priest/rabbi, were you? Second, I'm not sure if "congregation of the Lord" actually refers to the particular church you want to attend. It may mean something bigger than an outpost of an organized religion. Third, they didn't have corrective surgery back in the days when the Bible was written, so I would guess if you got things repaired, all would be well with the Lord. (The same goes for the leaders of the Jehovah's Witnesses who misinterpreted the Bible's dictum against the intake of blood - it couldn't refer to transfusions, because they didn't exist when the Bible was written. It refers only to the eating or drinking of blood.)

Who told you God doesn't change His mind? That's a very human concept.
The verse is in the Old Testament, which is under Jewish law. It's the old covenant made with a people who needed specific rules. Jesus' death and resurrection signaled a new covenant that holds we are to obey the 10 commandments, but most importantly these 2 new commandments:
Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and mind
and
Love your neighbor as yourself.
Basically, it means that legalism isn't what following God is all about. It's about loving Him and being a good person.

My friend this is called Jewish Law. Those that choose to follow the Jewish law today would have no choice but to adhere to this because it is from God. Are you under the Law? Probably not. This is not the same concept as say...homosexuality which God says is an abomination (and therefore will not change because God will not change.) This is something strictly for the Jews to adhere to parallel to animal sacrifices (which are no longer necessary). Don't worry, come on to church and get your praise on!

Paul, I don't recognize that scripture at all, and I read the Bible alot! The Bible has never had a problem with disfigurement, excpt that you couldn't serve in The Temple as a Levite with disfigurement yet God still cared for them! He still blessed them and told them His Words. So fear not, all have a place in God's Church.

Back in the days when the Bible was written I suppose they chopped off that thing if the guy did something very bad. I think whatever he did that caused them to chop it off is why he was banned him from church.
A lot of stuff in the Bible, if taken literally, doesn't make much sense today. You have to know what the circumstances were back then.

You have to understand the purpose the command. God was saying that no one who has a flaw can enter His presence. Physical deformity is an imperfection, so God barred ppl with them from His presence. It was representative of the fact that we can't be in God's presence if we have sin. Now, however, Jesus has come to pay for our sin, so if you follow Him, He takes your sin and you become sinless. Jesus is the way we can be in God's presence again, so yes, you can go to church.
