I messed up my early high school career and had a 2.5. I worked extra hard and got a 3.7 for my last yr of high school and it brought it to 2.9

So I bet a 4.0 will most likely raise it atleast .5 points. (But for a whole yr, not just one semester).

It depends on how many credits you took to get the 4.0 and how many credits the GPA before the semester is based on.

For example. If you were a C student your first freshman semester and you took 12 credits, you would have a 2.0 GPA. You get your act together and take 12 more credits, and get a 4.0. Well, now you are 24 credits into it and have a 3.0 thus far. So your GPA actually increased by 1.0.

If you got all C's over 12 credits, then took 16 credits and got all A's, your GPA would be:

12 x 2.0 = 24.0
16 x 4.0 = 64.0

24 + 64 = 88.0

88/28 = 3.14

So your GPA went up 1.14 in just 1 semester.

It is also easier to affect GPA as a freshman than as a senior.
