To answer this, you have to make several assumptions. For instance, are you asking how long it takes from harvest, from purchase at a store, or sitting on your table. You can extend the life of an apple by keeping it refrigerated.
But for us, the apple takes about 3 -4 weeks after purchase sitting out in an open bowl for it to rot.

I think there was a pretty good thing on mythbusters where they were trying techniques to avoid molding.
