It works like this. If I bought you a present, you don't recieve it unless you come to my house and get it.

If you do not repent there is no forgiveness of sin for you. The answer and payment for sin was Jesus Christ's Precious Blood. Christ's Blood is the source of covering and cleansing sin from as man's life but a man must perform the part of the Salvation Plan described by God the Father in His Holy Word.

Another question is if Jesus died for our sins then why do we still feel the need to repent? it therefore begs the question may I then commit sin with impunity?
Didn`t Jesus tell the Woman caught in the act of adultery to go and sin no more, and if this applies to all of us are we then to announce that we are without sin now and in saying this are we all perfect images of the sinless One.
There is serious theology involved here that has to be reconciled with this question.
It seems to me to be much more sound theologically to say that Jesus died to take upon Himself the penalty for our sins and to enable by His precious blood for all future sins to be forgiven provided that we indeed repent of them as and when we commit them.

If you're a convicted murderer on Death Row and the governor offers you a pardon, it's not valid unless you agree to accept it. It means your debt has been paid, but it doesn't go into force automatically. If you refuse to accept the pardon, you're still guilty. If you do accept it, it's not a license for you to go out and commit another murder.
Jesus died for our sins, that's true, and He offers us a pardon. But we can't say, "Gee thanks," and continue to sin. That makes a mockery out of His Sacrifice on the Cross and cheapens the idea of salvation. Repentence means that we're both sorry for what we've done wrong and that we don't want to continue to sin any more.
Forgiveness is there for anyone who chooses to accept it. Those who refuse it by rejecting Christ or who have no intention of changing their ways are not eligible for the benefits of the pardon.

Jesus paid the price for those who believe He is their savior. If we believe, we try to live in a way that pleases Him and we do it out of love and respect for Him and the price He paid. If we don't repent, it's kind of a kick in His teeth, don't you think? It says that we don't care enough to change our lives and it's almost like crucifying Him again and again in our hearts. If we don't repent, we need to examine our hearts. We will always sin, but we need to express our sorrow and regret to Jesus.

Jesus main reason for dying was to forgive Adam's sin. When Adam sinned, that took away our chance of everlasting life on an earthly paradise. When Jesus died, that gave us back the hope of everlasting life. So the bottom line is that Jesus didn't forgive all of our sins, just Adam's big one. So we do need to repent for our little sins still. Please don't judge me for what I believe.

Repentance is a laying down of arms - an unconditional surrender in the self centered war against God. Not repenting leaves the criminal in his crimes.
Also, remember that in the Exodus, the Jews were required to apply the blood of a lamb to the doorposts of their houses. Didn't God know who the Jews were? Application and obedience are required. In order to "apply" the blood of Christ (the Lamb of God) you must repent!

because (if you believe in this) even though he sacrificed himself for our sake, we still continue to sin...therefore we are suppose to repent for our sins...you know what I mean? God gave us free will and Jesus died on the cross for our sins....so God or Jesus or whomever expects that we will choose not to sin, but we still do..i know its confusing, but its the answer i always got from school and my family (grew up catholic...now grown up and confused lol)
