I agree with you it should be bread.
According to Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bread
"Bread is one of the oldest prepared foods, dating back to the Neolithic era. The first breads produced were probably cooked versions of a grain-paste, made from ground cereal grains and water, and may have been developed by accidental cooking or deliberate experimentation with water and grain flour."
Apple Wine could be older though. If left on a tree too long and exposed to a yeast infection and allowed to ferment the result will be a slightly alcoholic apple. This happens normally, but if early man figured out how it happened then that would have started the wine industry.
But, I still think bread was the first man made food.

Long ago, in the days of the cave men, wild grasses (such as wheat, barley and rice) grew near the caves. Seeds from these plants would fall and scatter near the camp sites and be fertilized by the cave people as they relieved themselves.
The cave people noticed what was happening, and this led to the first farming. So, I would have to say that after fire was discovered, these wild grasses, probably cooked with water added, were the first man made food, even before bread, which involved a more sophisticated type cooking.

i would say that ground up corn (like polenta, or even corn tortillas) would have been around the same time or maybe sooner. also making soup thickened with ground up acorns was probably done before bread. the first bread was most likely crackers-like, or flat bread and not made of wheat flour.
If you count Jerky, then That would be the first.
just a guess though

I was going to guess Jerky or dried fruit, but since that doesn't count, you're probably dead-on with bread, or it could also be noodles. I know they found 4000 year old noodles in China.

Grilled or roasted meat. Break is tough to make and needs yeast to rise and an oven to bake in. Think fruits/veggies you can pick wild and meat of some sort.
